product description:
ASCORBYL PALMITATE FROM NOW FOODS 500 MG MODERATE POTENCY.Ascorbyl palmitate is a form of vitamin C that is fat soluble. Vitamin C (also know as ascorbic acid) is water soluble and cannot be stored in the cells. Ascorbyl palmitate however, is a fat soluble form. This allows the body to store this vital nutrient in the cell membrane until it is needed, therefore enhancing efficiency. Due to its ability to concentrate in the cells it is said to offer superior protection against oxidation. Ascorbyl palmitate also offers much of the same benefits as vitamin C including protection against free radicals, particularly in the skin and brain. [CAPSULE]

What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are nutrients that help to protect your body from the damage caused by free radicals - the toxic molecules that play a role in the development of diseases from cataracts to heart disease, and arthritis. While our bodies produce some of these free radicals as the "garbage" from some its natural processes, we are now exposed to more and more of them from our environment than ever before.

The chemical pollution of our air and water now leave us exposed to very powerful free radicals that we have never been exposed to in the past. In combination with the nutrient depletion of our foods from modern chemical agriculture, we now also get less of the important nutrients from it that would normally help our immune systems fight these chemical invaders. This is why many nutritional doctors recommend their patients take supplements of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are essential to optimal health, it's just that simple. But some parts of our body are more difficult to protect with antioxidants than others are. For example, every cell in our body is made up of a lipid bilayer that can only be shielded by fat-soluble antioxidants.

NOW Ascorbyl Palmitate
are a scientifically formulated fat-soluble version of ascorbic acid, and much easier to utilize in human cell membranes. As a powerful variety of Vitamin C, this highly effective antioxidant has been used to promote and maintain healthy skin, increased energy and overall levels of vitality.

How Antioxidants Protect Your Cells:

When a free radical enters your body, it is attracted to the cells that make up the different tissues of it just like a magnet to metal. It then bonds to parts of the cell, which causes it to deteriorate in a way similar to that which oxygen causes metal to rust. If the cell gets damaged enough, it dies. Worse yet, if the cell DNA is damaged and then the cell reproduces, it reproduces abnormally as a result. When this happens to our skin, we get wrinkles; when it happens to our oxygen carrying blood vessels, we get hardening of the arteries; when it happens to our joints, we get arthritis.

Antioxidants work by bonding with the free radical before it can bond to the cells of your body, thus neutralizing it. This now harmless substance is then deconstructed or merely excreted.

Common Disorders Caused By Oxidative Damage
Cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, wrinkles, premature aging, cardiovascular disease are all affected and exacerbated by oxidative damage to different parts of the body. It is now widely accepted even among mainstream practitioners that free radical damage is a major cause of these diseases.

Essential Vitamin C

Vitamin C is the most widely used supplement. Humans cannot manufacture their own vitamin C; therefore it must be taken in through the diet. Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that is used all over the body. It speeds tissue growth and repair, supports hormone production, increases immune system functioning, protects the body from toxins and supports healthy cell growth. It also regulates cholesterol, blood pressure and blood clotting. There are several types of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid is the basic form. To buffer the natural acidity of vitamin C manufacturers can bind it to other molecules. Two examples are calcium ascorbate (Ester-C) and ascorbyl palmitate. It also makes vitamin C easier for the body to absorb and decreases the loss of the vitamin through the urine. This increases the cost of the supplement but it is beneficial to those taking high doses of vitamin C and those who cannot tolerate acidic substances.

Vitamin C comes in a variety of dosage forms including conventional pills, time-released tablets, syrups, powders and chewable tablets. A qualified practitioner can even administer it intravenously. Vitamin C is usually derived from corn or dextrose but tapioca-sourced C is also available. Vitamin C is often combined with bioflavinoids like hesperidin and rutin. These substances work synergistically with Vitamin C. Rose hips are a good substitute for straight vitamin C because they are the richest natural source of vitamin C. Rose hips are also a good source of bioflavinoids. Vitamin C is lost in the urine only a few hours after it is taken so frequent dosing is important.
