Sweet Almond Oil comes from the almond tree. Cold-pressed from the edible nut kernels (or fruit) of the almond tree, sweet almond oil is an excellent skin-softening (emollient) oil.

What is Sweet Almond Oil used for?

Historically, Sweet Almond Oil has been used for centuries in skin care. Today it's widely used in natural skin care and cosmetic lines.

It's also added to many facial creams and in shaving creams.

Sweet Almond Oil is also great to use if you suffer from dry skin in the winter.

How does Sweet Almond Oil work?

Sweet Almond Oil is mild, lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin where it can moisturize and have its effect. It's rich in unsaturated fats and essential fatty acids, such as linoleic acid which supports healthy cells, decreases inflammation and moisturizes.

As such, Sweet Almond Oil has a calming and soothing effect especially against dry, itchy skin and improves the skin’s protective function against chemicals, air pollution, sun damage or winter elements.

How do you use it?

Sweet Almond Oil is great used as a carrier oil for essential oils. This means when using essential oils you add a few drops to a carrier oil to dilute the essential oil. Sweet Almond Oil is ideal because it absorbs into your skin with ease.

Sweet Almond Oil is frequently combined with other natural health products in skin care and cosmetics.

Sweet Almond Oil is also great to use on its own after a shower for dry skin or for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. You can apply it directly to your skin.

You've Opened my Eyes to a Totally Different Side of Sweet Almond Oil!!

The name prunus amygdalus dulcisi is so pretty; I love how nice the Latin makes it sound. And I didn't know that in order to get sweet almond oil the almonds are cold-pressed (this is such a gentle and nice mode of processing)!! Also, I was unaware that sweet almond oil had so many healthy-promoting uses including for the skin and joints; I had always just imagined almond oil as a delicious & distinctive ingredient for baked goods as opposed to a health-promoting ingredient-thank you so much for openning my eyes to this totally different side of sweet almond oil. It's warming to imagine that this little addition make's my Nan's Christmas cookies at least a little bit kind to the body, in addition to being potently nourishing for the soul <3

      Hello Rachel,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this article about sweet almond oil. While almond oil can be used in baking, it's important to note that it must be food grade in order to be safe for digestion. Sweet almond oil that's used in a therapeutic setting should not be ingested and only used topically for aromatherapy applications. As a carrier oil, almond oil is a great base for essential oils when making body oils, massage oils and more. Castor oil is also a great carrier oil with many health benefits that you may enjoy learning about in this article, https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/castor-oil/

      Have a healthy day
