Green Coffee Bean Extract
Recently on his program, Dr. Oz discussed green coffee bean extract as a "miracle pill to burn fat". He said that taking green coffee bean extract can help you lose weight without changing your diet or increasing your activity level at all. Since that time, this supplement has been rising in popularity for this potential as a weight loss aid. It simply consists of and extract of the unroasted seed of the coffee plant (Coffea arabica).
How does it work?
Green coffee bean contains chlorogenic acid (CGA), which has been shown in mice studies to inhibit the release of glucose in the body and to boost the metabolism of sugar and fat in the liver. This can potentially help to drive the body towards burning more fat and storing less of it.
Can I just drink coffee instead? Sorry to say, "No"
It would appear that the benefits of green coffee bean extract are due to its high CGA content, and not its caffeine content, which is actually far less than a small cup of coffee. Unfortunately, roasting of the coffee beans for use in beverages, removes the chlorogenic acid. This sadly eliminates the medicinal effect such that drinking a cup of coffee is not going to provide the same benefit.
A supplement of raw, unroasted GCB (green coffee bean) extract is the best way to boost your weight loss with its active ingredient chlorogenic acid (CGA).
New Research Proves CGBE Effective! Lose Weight Without Dieting
A recent study on Green Coffee Bean's weight loss effects was conducted in early 2012. That study examined 16 overweight adults, and found that treatment with 350mg of green coffee bean extract three times daily for 12 weeks helped to cause significant reductions in body weight, despite no other change in diet.
How should I take GCBE?
According to the research study, 350mg three times daily (1050mg total) was sufficient to promote the desired weight loss. On the Dr. Oz show, their specialist (Lindsey Duncan, ND) recommended a dose of 800mg 30 minutes before meals with a full glass of water, twice daily (1600mg total). Unfortunately, due to the limited evidence, it is difficult to be sure what to take. I usually side with the research and would recommend taking 350mg three times daily before meals, although either suggested dose may be beneficial.
As it stands, no negative side effects to Green Coffee Bean supplementation are known. Similar cautions would apply to taking CGBE as drinking a cup of coffee.
This article will explain general healthy eating habits and nutritional supplements that can enhance weight loss. See a health professional to ensure that there are no medical conditions that are causing you to gain weight. Then detoxify the body to make sure it is working to capacity. See the article entitled “detoxification” for more information. Have a positive mental outlook and deal with stress effectively. Start moderate exercise that is maintainable in your daily routine. Remember healthy weight loss is no more than 2-4 lbs weekly.
Water is a very important nutrient because it flushes waste products from the body and prevents dehydration. Drink 2L of filtered water or herbal teas daily. A large part of your food intake should be whole grains and vegetables because they are rich in nutrients, and enzymes, and help to stabilize the blood sugar. Increase your consumption of tofu, legumes, nuts and seeds. Vegetable protein is lower in saturated fat than animal protein. Nuts and seeds are good protein source and contain essential fatty acids. These fats actually increase the metabolism of stored fats. Use unrefined, cold-pressed nut and seed oils made from flax seed, walnut, hemp seed and pumpkin seed. Water-soluble fibre, like pectin, psyllium and inulin, are found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Fibre is an appetite suppressant and binds bile to prevent the reabsorption of fats in the intestine.
Healthy eating involves avoiding lots of food that is easily available in our society. Limit your intake of white flour products, processed foods, junk foods, candies, fried foods, hydrogenated fats, simple sugars and alcohol.
