RUTIN
Articles by a Naturopathic
Doctor ( N.D.)
Rutin is a flavanol glycoside (bioflavanoid) and has very similar effects to quercetin, in fact quercetin is made from Rutin ...
It has both anti inflammatory and anticoagulant properties, meaning it improves circulation and prevents platelet aggregation, which can lead to atherosclerosis and clot formation. It strengthens the capillaries, and reduces the cytotoxicity of oxidized LDL cholesterol thus lowering the risk of heart disease.

Rutin also helps to maintain the health of the venous system, making it useful in the treatment of varicose veins and hemorrhoids. It is a potent anti-oxidant, combating free radical damage of various sources. Rutin also helps the body to utilize vitamin C and to maintain collagen, both of which are important for healthy skin.
Rutin is found in a variety of foods, including apricots, buckwheat, cherries, prunes, asparagus, rosehips and the white rinds of citrus fruits. The optimal dosage ranges anywhere from 200-600 mg/day. Rutin is considered safe and non-toxic. Individuals supplementing with higher than recommended doses may report dizziness, increased heart rate, headache, muscle stiffness, fatigue, diarrhea, and upset stomach. |
