I did not know that angina occurs because of a lack of oxygen to the heart...it is like a stroke for the heart in that sense. It is so interesting that the arginine and carnitine in red meat can specifically be good for this. It makes me think of those (at least in my own opinion) crazy carnivore diet people who treat red meat as a cure-all and at the very least argue that red meat should not be maligned as much as it is. I still think red meat is "bad news bears" . But this is still an interesting fact!

Angina is terrible. I did not know, like many other commenters, that the heart pain known as angina occurs specifically due to a lack of oxygen to the heart, or ischemia, with this ischemia most often due to spasm or constriction of the blood vessels that supply the heart muscle itself, eg the coronary arteries. I thought that it did not result from something as severe as a lack of oxygen to the heart so if I ever get that feeling...I am going to be paying attention to it and making sure to seek medical attention. Thanks for the heads up!

I was looking for information detailing more specifically what angina encompasses and got it! I like how you delineate the different types of angina, include established risk factors, and mention multiple treatment options including dietary intervention, herbal/natural remidies and drugs. My father and grandmother experience heart issues, including angina, and this article was helpful!

I didn't really know what angina was until reading this article. I thought it could have been a form of a heart attack but it was good to learn that angina is actually a pre-cursor or warner of a heart attack. This just goes to show how amazing your body is that it detects things and alerts us so that we can avoid impending doom. Angina seems to be quite serious on its own and I'm glad that there are things that can be done to help prevent heart attacks and angina once symptoms arise.
