I never heard about osteomacia before, I though I have heard about osteopenia (less severe) and osteoporosis (more severe). I did not know of osteomalacia, this being "a condition in which the bones are weakened, and in severe cases the weight-bearing bones may be deformed (Ricketts)". I suppose the difference between this condition and osteopenia/porosis is that while there is normal amount of bone structure present it is not sufficiently mineralized (and osteopenia/porosis is a more general loss?). I'll read more about it-nice to learn something new!

My mother has these issues so I am learning about them for her benefit. She doesn't really trust too many herbal supplements but I will try to introduce her to what I can. Boron is something I can confirm helps. I actually felt it in my body working, especially when combined with Magnesium and Calcium. They have a way of relaxing the body while at the same time strengthening it. It's important to remember these problems can occur in younger people too, so it's good to keep your bones strong.

Most of us know that strength training (with free weights, weight machines, or resistance bands) can help build and maintain muscle mass and strength. What many of us don't know is that strong muscles lead to strong bones. And strong bones can help minimize the risk of fracture due to osteoporosis.
