I did not know that depression was so common. I thought that it was over-reported or that it was less common than expected. So often, I hear people say, "I am so depressed" and that bugs me. It bothers me because depression is a very real, severe problem. Sure, lots of people get low mood but it is something else to have depression. Depression is 30 DAYS OF THE TERRIBLE MOOD AND APATHETIC OR SUICIDAL FEELINGS. So, both are bad but one is far more dire. It is shocking, that millions suffer with this terrible condition. It is good that you spread awareness and unique treatment options, here.

Hello Rachel,
Sorry you experienced that, but thank you for sharing. Omega 3's offer many health benefits, and their cognitive ones are astounding. We're glad you found this nutrient and that it helped you so much. Please learn more about Omega 3 in this article: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/omega-3-essential-fats/ & https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/alpha-lipoic-acid/

It ais amazing what a HUGE difference a single supplement can make for mental well-being. I struggled with depression and dark thoughts during high school. An omega-3 CURED my depression (this is n=1 but I have indeed tried blinded and placebo; without the omega-3, I inevitably experience progressively worsening mood and thoughts). One note I would like to add here is that you just list salmon or tuna oil and while these are great sources of omega 3s, there are plant-based microalgae long chain omega 3s out there too (which are far better for the planet!)

Hello Kaveh,
Thank you for your comment and sharing how you combat these feelings. Feelings of depression can come on when you feel isolated, stress, lacking quality sleep and sunlight.
I used to think I was depressed but now I know it was just stress and lack of sunlight. I do recommend taking st john’s wort. I have it as a tea, and I love it. It's strong and it works. I mix it with valerian root and skullcap. I am sure it mixes well with lots of evening teas. 5htp I have mixed results, the first time I took it it reminded me of ecstasy when I was a teenager going to raves. It has this effect once, I never felt it again. It seems to slow down my brain which I am not sure is a good thing. The 5htp I have is mixed with l-tyrosine. I also take gaba with mixed results, which were improved by mixing it with Inositol and other B vitamins.
