The different possible causes of Type I diabetes are wild. Especially the cow milk one! But I do not doubt it: milk grows up wee little calves to big cows. It is full of hormones, growth factors, and all sorts of things that science has not characterized (at least not yet!). Maybe as you mention, the bovine serum albumin does it. It is a thinker, the theory that because bovine serum albumin in cow's milk closely resembles a molecule found on the surface of most pancreatic cells, this causes a reaction to similar molecules on the pancreatic cells until they are destroyed. The associations with microbial factors are also a thinker

This is such an amazingly comprehensive article; thank you, NN! I did not know that pertussis (eg whooping cough), hepatitis, rubella, Epstein-Barr, coxsackie, herpes v6, and cytomegalovirus, all may be associated with infection-induced development of type I diabetes. I also did not realize that a full 85% of those diagnosed with diabetes have obesity/overweight; I knew that body weight was a factor in diabetes development but I did not realize that the effect was so dramatic; this is good motivation to stay within a healthy weight range, NN!

Its important to manage blood sugar but for a lot of people its difficult to cut out all high carb foods such as rice, bread and potatoes - these can impact blood sugar just as much as sugary things. The best thing to do is find alternatives that can easily replace some of these things. For example, Keto/Low carb bread, sweeteners like stevia (instead of sugar), ground cauliflower to replace rice. These are fairly easy "cheats" that most people can implement.

In terms of supplements, Berberine, fiber, CoQ10, ALA and others can help. Berberine has been the focus of a lot of research lately and it looks promising. It may be worth adding this to the list above.
