Wow! Food seems to be the antidote. I believe there is something healing in a good soup. Not only the tradition of feeling loved and cared for, in community. The nutrition is beneficial, not only a matter of calories. The soup vegetables have a lot of nutrients. In some cases, it may be more because of the herbs, that are included in the soup. Garlic and ginger have immune properties that you mention. And, these two spices are staples in soup recipes. I will be sure to not skip out on nutrition next time I get sick. Likely will help me to heal faster!

Hello Kaveh,
Those are great herbs to help when you're feeling under the weather. Oil of Oregano is another great herb to take once you feel sickness coming on. You can learn more of its benefits here: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/oregano/

When I get sic I take Echinacea with Goldenseal or elderberry, often in teas, but also tinctures and capsules. I mix and match. Astragalus I take as an adaptogen for stress, but it also works for immunity. I have Medicinal Mushrooms – Reishi and Lion's Mane, but I had a reaction to the later, headaches, so I have to be careful using them. I take Ginseng as well, but mostly for energy. Beta-Sitosterol I take as well. Cat's Claw is a nice tea. Garlic and Vitamin C together with Rosemary works. Oregano oil is strong and recommended

I have not had the flu, let alone really gotten sick, for about 5 years and I largely have diet to thank. Your suggestions are amazing and I follow most of them. Avoiding flour as breaks down into sugars which negatively affect your immune function is a great suggestion and I limit flour consumption to once a day, one serving if not less (I do have a weakness for buckwheat pancakes). Your spice suggestion, fruit and berry suggestion, vegetable suggestion...all are great! It is a healthy lifestyle apples and all that keep the doctor away as well as the flu at bay, NN! :)

Excellent article. As a person who follows almost all the advice in this article, I can say that it works very well. Lack of sleep also lowers the immune system greatly. As well as stress. Thyme tea is something I use for the cough. I always learn new things reading these articles.
