Hello Jason,
We're glad you enjoyed that sections. Indeed, sugar is in a lot of the foods we consume, without even realizing it. That's great you made that change, especially because of the antioxidant benefits found in green tea. Learn more about the benefits of green tea here: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/green-tea/

Great piece on the sugar part. We don't understand how much added sugar we consume. When I was losing weight, one of the first things I replaced was soda with zero calorie beverages like green tea or black coffee. It was a big game changer.

Also from my experience, I've noticed there is a lot of sugar in the fast food restaurants. Once when I was going with my friend to Tim's, he bought a box of 10 chocolate Timbits. When I saw how much calories was in a single chocolate Timbit, I couldn't stop but laugh since that tiny ball was 80 calories each. So consuming half that box would be 400 calories or 800 calories if he ate the entire thing! And a lot of the calories came from the sugar too. From that point on, I never ate a Timbit no matter how tempting it was knowing that, that one donut hole contained that many calories.

I love your selection of tips here, particularly that most are focused on diet as there is a big misconception that excercise is equally or moreso even, a factor in weight loss. The reality is that while excercise is indeed important to metabolic health and lifespan, it takes a very large amount of excercise to override the body's compensatory energy-management propensities and so, it rings trye that "abs are built in the kitchen." Your first tip, to focus on fiber, is a really great bit of advice because fiber had the dual action of being filling as well as aiding in digestion and microbiome health (which can positively modify the gut microbiome)

Hello Roger,
Indeed, nothing can replace a healthy, whole foods diet and regular exercise regimen; however, if some people are still having a hard time losing weight, they could have an underlying health condition that needs to be addressed by a doctor or naturopath as well. Thank you for sharing what's worked for you!

Stay healthy & well.

Eating low carbs, especially eliminating processed carbs is very important if one wants to keep their weight down. Paleo, Keto and other low carb diets emphasize on this.

Increasing fibre is a tip I always hear but never really understood why besides the surface level reasoning. These tips are great and I will definitely be trying them especially the fibre and incorporating more green tea! Also stress reduction is something I am continuously working on and is definitely the trickiest one for me to maintain. I hope that by doing these tips and having good sleeping and exercising habits along with eating well that my stress will reduce and I can lose the little bit of weight I gained. Also knowing when to push yourself and when to relax is also something I’m working on! Thanks for sharing!

I am particularly interested in the fact that a low TSH can contribute to weight gain. I will be asking my doctor what I can do to raise mine. I have already utilized some of your recommendations - increased fibre, less sugar, green tea more of the good fats and now I have ordered fermented organic vegan proteins+ by Genuine Health to increase my protein intake - great advice, thanks.
