I think that cranberry is one of the most amazing fruits for health. I didn't know that cranberry was a good source of, in addition to antioxidants, Vitamin C. Also, while I was well aware of cranberry's role in preventing/treating UTIs I did not know the mechanism- eg mannose acting against E. coli (on that note, I am actually going to have to do more reading about UTIs: I study the human gut microbiome and biological sex on immunity and I did not know that E. coli bacteria was the most common urinary tract pathogen. Thank you for another great article, National Nutritional!

Hello, Sharon,
Thank you for sharing. D-mannose, the active compound in cranberry, is very beneficial for UTIs. You can get that as its own supplement and learn about it here: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/supplements/d-mannose/

The article provides a thorough, readable review of the health benefits of cranberry. Appreciated the explanation of why sweetened cranberry and cranberry extract taken with fruit juice is not recommended. Quick facts offer a useful summary of cranberry's health benefits and dosage details. My understanding of how cranberry supports urinary tract health and prevent UTIs is much improved - thank you!
