Excellent, vitamin C helps increase the absorption of iron so we love hearing that you make sure to take the two alongside each other. Thank you for sharing and we're happy you've been enjoying learning more about natural health with us.

Iron Bisglycinate is the form I take, often paired with fruit or vegetable juices that are high in nutrients, like vitamin C, that enhance absorption. I take it by itself with the juice, nothing else. The absorption of iron can be decreased when calcium, magnesium, zinc so I take all these at separate times or days even. I also cook food in cast iron pots, as foods will absorb some of the iron from the cookware. You have to season the pan with flaxseed oil. The form of iron I take is chelated iron that is easily absorbed by the body. It's made by bonding an iron molecule to a glycine molecule. The best way!

Hello Rachel,
Thank you for leaving a comment, iron is one mineral that does have risks if it's taken when it's not needed. It's important to speak with your doctor and have a blood test completed to check your iron levels before starting to take an iron supplement, as outline in this article. It's not to see you enjoyed learning about this mineral and learning how it can help your health when taken appropriately.

Have a healthy day.

THANK YOU for including a paragraph on the dangers of iron; this is an underappreciated but important consideration because too much iron can have real harms and too much iron is very much possible in an environment where everything from cereals to breads are fortified. Indeed, as you mention, too much iron can harm organs and damage tissues. Another issue is oxidization causing brain damage and potentially even contributing to Alzhiemer's-yikes! And, as you indeed mention, too much iron can blunt zinc absorption as well!

Hello Sharon,

Thank you for sharing. Indeed, if you are low in iron, taking an iron supplement can warrant many noticeable benefits such as an increase in energy. Did you know iron is better absorbed when taking with vitamin C? We would suggest taking liposomal C along with your iron supplement. You can learn more about lipo C here:

I think iron is essential in small amounts especially when you reach a certain age. This article gives us the necessary info to be aware of. I buy my multi vitamin with a fair amount of iron in it which is sufficient if I am not getting enough of it through my diet. I don’t want to take too much so the multi is a perfect way to include it in the nutrients I take. I also take calcium and magnesium for better absorption of iron.
