"lacto": milk, "ferin": iron. I tought that lactoferrin was an iron-metabolizing enzyme whose proucts or substrates were milky in color-wow, was I totally wrong about this enzyme. Thank you for clarifying for me that lactoferrin is actually a protein naturally found in human breast milk (highest concentration in human colostrum) and bovine milk. I feel kind of silly as a PhD in the micobiology and immunology program not knowing that lactoferrin is the part of breast milk that transfers immunity to the newborn and that it can have effects on the gut microbiome. Thank you so much for filling in this big gap in my knowledge-I appreciate it and am so glad that I almost always learn from your articles!
