The Green Chocolate Smoothie
Updated Jul. 27th, 2017
Who said you couldn’t get your chocolate fix and a serving of vegetables all in one? Not us! This smoothie is the best way to combine your love of both into one glass. Serve it up as part of a healthy breakfast, or sip it as your after-dinner sweet treat. Either way, with 200 calories, it’s a much healthier and practical alternative to that soft-serve hot fudge sundae with a side of steamed broccoli you were daydreaming about!
- Gluten Free
- Egg Free
Ingredients:
½ cup goat milk | 1 tablespoon ground flax seed | 4-6 ice cubes |
¼ cup goat milk yogurt | 2 teaspoon unpasteurized honey | |
1 tablespoon cocoa powder | 2 cups fresh spinach |
Directions
- Using a blender, combine your milk, yogurt, cocoa powder, flax seed and honey. Blend until smooth and well mixed.
- Next, add in your pre-washed spinach and ice. Blend and chop (and watch as your smoothie turns from brown to green!) until you reach a drinkable consistency.
- Enjoy!
Make It This Way
If you want to make this smoothie dairy-free, substitute out the yogurt for coconut milk – it provides a thickening agent that most milks cant – and use either almond, rice, soy or any other non-dairy milk in place of the goat milk .
Give your body an extra shot of fiber, protein and omega-3s by adding in some chia seeds.
Try This
Because this recipe calls for yogurt, it adds a bit of a creamy texture to it, making it the perfect sweet treat for after dinner. Enjoy this drink instead of a sugar-filled dessert – only maybe enjoy a half portion instead of a whole one!
I love chocolate, most people do! So to make a green chocolate smoothie really caught my eye, adding spinach to it is a great idea especially if you have trouble eating your greens adding spinach to a smoothie is a wonderful idea because you really don't taste it, then adding chocolate, or in this case, cocoa powder, is so fun and a clever idea to have a nice chocolatey smoothie with the benefits of greens!
Hello,
This is the best of both worlds, who says you can't have your cake & eat it too! Also, if you add in mint, this would be a great winter and holiday treat.
this recipe for a green chocolate smoothie is such a great idea and one I can not believe that I never thought about before. The idea that you can basically eat your vegetables with your dessert is so genius and not to mention so delicious! this recipe is so easy to follow and the sweetness of the honey makes it healthier than adding granulated white sugar so it is really a great recipe alternative to make.
Hello,
Who says dessert can't also be healthy!? Indeed, the chocolate flavour masks all the vegetable goodness in this one. Now you can have your cake & eat it too ;)
