BC White Ginseng
Also known as North American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.), BC white Ginseng is a type of Ginseng grown and harvested in British Columbia, Canada.
Panax quinquefolius L. is considered rare or uncommon in most of North America, but it was first discovered in present-day Montreal in 1716. Today it can be found in southwestern Quebec and southern Ontario, especially along the Niagara Escarpment and the eastern edge of the Precambrian Shield. North American Ginseng is also grown in the Okanagan Valley and the Thompson River Valley, where the arid climate of the BC Interior is ideal for ginseng production.
BC white ginseng is unique as a result of how it is processed. Indeed, white ginseng is produced by harvesting the ginseng root, which is then dried without undergoing additional processing. The drying process causes the root to turn pale or white, hence the name "white ginseng." White ginseng is very different from red ginseng, which undergoes a steaming and drying process that gives it a reddish hue. The processing methods result in different chemical compositions and, ultimately, very different medicinal properties.
From a therapeutic standpoint, BC white ginseng is known for its soothing, calming effects and ability to boost energy and improve focus and concentration. It is also frequently recommended as a tonic for elderly adults, as daily digestive support, for stress management, and to help normalize libido in men and women.

BC White Ginseng Supplements
If you’re interested in trying BC white ginseng, you have a few options, such as capsules, tablets, liquid extracts, and powdered form that can be mixed with water, juice, or other liquids. If you're going with the raw herb, you'd take anywhere from 600 to 3000mg daily. However, if you're going with a standardized supplement, typically, you'd take somewhere in the 100 to 300mg range three times daily. Always read and follow the dosing instructions on the product you select.
Final Thoughts
When selecting a ginseng supplement, it's essential to choose one that is standardized to ensure consistency and quality in terms of the active components, such as ginsenosides, which are responsible for the bulk of ginseng’s health benefits. Indeed, standardization ensures that the supplement consistently contains a specific amount or concentration of these active ingredients. This is important because the efficacy of your supplement can vary depending on the concentration of these compounds from dose to dose. By standardizing the product, manufacturers can ensure that consumers receive a consistent dosage of the active ingredients with each use and, as a result, can reap optimal therapeutic benefits.
