Cold & Flu
Colds and flu's are a part of everyday life. They are usually caused by viruses, although if left untreated, bacteria can move in and cause infection as well. Colds and flu's can be treated effectively with natural therapies that both kill the infecting organism and support the immune system.
Cold symptoms include congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, dry cough, swollen glands and a low fever. As the cold progresses discharges may increase and become green or yellow in colour. The duration of a cold is usually 7 10 days. Flu's usually have the same symptoms as a cold but are more severe. High fever, chills and body ache also occur. Flu's can also attack the gastrointestinal system and cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The duration of a flu is usually one week, but full recovery can take longer.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the airways. It can occur acutely as the result of an infection or chronically in the case of respiratory diseases like asthma, or emphysema. Acute bronchitis begins with cold symptoms and a dry cough. As it progresses the cough becomes deeper, painful and more productive. Phlegm can be clear, white or yellow and varies in thickness. Chest tightness and breathlessness can occur. Acute cases usually resolve in a few weeks. The cough of chronic bronchitis is usually less severe but constant. Phlegm may or may not be produced. This is usually caused by repeated irritations like tobacco smoke, environmental chemicals or other allergens. A weak immune system can also result in repeated bronchial infections.

Extracts of elder berries have been shown to inhibit the replication of the influenza virus, making it a suitable herb for the treatment and prevention of the common cold and flu. Elderberries also contain large amounts of flavinoids, which act as antioxidants. Free radicals are unstable molecules that in their bid to become more stable must bump into healthy cells and cause damage. Elderberries antioxidant properties neutralize free radicals and therefore reduce damage to tissues all over the body, including those that are infected.
Oregano Oil
Oregano extracts have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal activity. Chronic infections, like candidiasis, and contagious new viruses, like SARS, seem to be inhibited by oregano. Oregano not only kills infecting microbes in the respiratory tract but also acts as an expectorant (helps to expel mucus) and antispasmodic (relieves coughing). In the digestive tract oregano soothes digestion and decreases diarrhea, by stopping intestinal spasms. It also kills gastrointestinal microbes and decreases gas and bloating
