New Roots Advanced Vitamin B1 Formula
Vitamin B1, also called Thiamine, is used in numerous body functions. Thiamin enhances circulation, helps with blood formation and the metabolism of carbohydrates. It is also required for the health of the nervous system and is used in the biosynthesis for a number of cell constituents, including the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It is used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid, and therefore plays an important part in digestion. It also helps with brain functions, depression and assists with memory and learning. Children require it for growth and it was shown to assist with arthritis, cataracts as well as infertility.
It's pretty rare in Canada for a person to be deficient in B1. It's usually only seen in babies who are fed formula that isn't supplemented with Vitamin B1 and in people who drink large amounts of alcohol or other health problems. People who drink heavily should talk to their doctors about how to quit drinking and for the doctor to determine whether they need vitamin B1 supplements.
A deficiency will result in beriberi, and minor deficiencies may be indicated with extreme fatigue, irritability, constipation, edema and an enlarged liver. Forgetfulness, gastrointestinal disturbances, heart changes, irritability, labored breathing and loss of appetite may also be experienced. With too little thiamine available, a person may also experience nervousness, numbness of the hands and feet, pain and sensitivity, poor coordination, tingling sensations, weak and sore muscles, general weakness and severe weight loss.
What are B Vitamins?
B vitamins are a complex of water-soluble vitamins. They are called "B Complex" because you do not find any one of them in a specific food or living tissue without the others being present. B vitamins complement each other. They are responsible mainly for the health and maintenance of nerves, eyes, digestion and skin, as well as the processing of carbohydrates, fat and protein, growth, the production of hormones and digestive enzymes, prevention of anaemia, maintenance of the sex glands, sebaceous glands and bone marrow.
Because of their solubility they cannot be stored in the body, so whatever is not utilized is rapidly excreted. However, a certain balance is advisable making a B Complex supplement ideal rather than taking large amounts of just one or two B vitamins. The B-complex vitamins are a group of similarly structured compounds, which is why they are referred to as a "Complex" vitamin. This complex of vitamins consists of B1 (thiamine HCL), B2 (riboflavin 5-phosphate and riboflavin HCL), B3 flush free (inositol hexanicotinate) and Niacinamide, B5 (D-pantothenic acid, calcium), B6 (pyridoxal 5-phosphate and pyridoxine HCL) and, B7 (biotin), B12 (cyanocobalamine), and folic acid.
