Magnesium is a critical mineral that works alongside calcium to build healthy bones. It helps with essential fatty acid metabolism and is a muscle relaxant too. It's going to reduce migraines, restless legs, muscle cramps after sport, and menstrual cramps. It is one of the most incredibly important minerals you can take for your health. We've had such a hyper focus on calcium that we're really missing a lot on magnesium.
Why is it known as a common mineral?
It is critical for our nervous system, so it's really known as a calming nutrient. It helps us cope with more. We need a number of macro-minerals to really feel happy. One of the great things that it does is it actually helps with Omega-3 uptake. If we have a good amount of Omega3, we're going to feel much calmer and able to cope with more.
Why are so many people magnesium deficient?
The foods that we're eating are robbing us of our minerals. When you take refined flour, or refined sugar, you're simply inserting the calories but you're not inserting the nutrients you need to metabolize those calories. This is because the nutrients are found in very healthy foods that are really left by the wayside. Unfortunately, people aren't eating enough fish, which is high in things like halibut and nuts.
What are the symptoms of deficiency?
The biggest symptom would have to be cramping everywhere in the body. We not only see muscle cramps, menstrual cramps, but also a lot of headaches. If you are experiencing anything like that or if you're finding your memory is not what it used to be, then you are having the deficiency.
What are the best forms of it?
The most absorbable form would have to be magnesium bisglycinate. The reason for this is because it’s actually so well absorbed that it doesn't cause loose stools, and this is critically important for some people who find that magnesium citrate can be a bit of a laxative.
What is MagSense?
It is a magnesium bisglycinate formulation with added ingredients that really help potentize it and really help to reduce any sort of inflammation in the body. It is so easy to absorb and so people find it doesn't upset their stomach. It also has added malic acid that is used for pain relief. There is also L-glutamine that is used to repair the digestive lining and to boost brain function. You also want to look at it because of the number of added vitamins and minerals in the formulation that create an overall solid foundation to nourish the nervous system and also help to reduce inflammation.
When should it be taken?
You can take it any time of the day or night, but it helps with a restful sleep so many people take it before bed. It also is really nice with warm water so you have a nice soothing beverage.
