QUEST L-ARGININE

L-arginine is an essential amino acid that cannot be manufactured by our bodies, it must be consumed through diet and/or supplementation. Arginine plays a vital role in many processes in the body from wound healing, cardiac disease, and sexual dysfunction to increasing hormone production. Increased physical, environmental and emotion stress, as well as malnutrition depletes our absorption and use of this amino acid.

Arginine plays an important role in the metabolism of protein and nitrogen containing compounds. Thus it has an important role in muscle building and regaining muscle after periods of illness or inactivity. Arginine is involved in the production of polyamines and other compounds that promote the growth of all body tissues including muscle. Arginine can be used for intestinal diseases, wounds and other conditions that require repair of tissue. It is a precursor to nitrous oxide, a chemical that dilates blood vessels and increases circulation. This property allows the body to get more oxygen to its tissues for enhancing athletic activity, alleviating impotence and increasing male sexual performance. Arginine enhances the activity of the thymus; the gland that produces T cells for the immune system. T cells are important for anti-viral (like HIV) and anti-cell growth activity. Arginine can be used for many health conditions in addition to the ones mentioned above. They include high cholesterol, liver detoxification, and sterility, obesity, aging, arthritis and blood sugar imbalances.

L-Arginine may also benefit:

  • Men suffering from erectile dysfunction.

  • Sperm productionand male fertility.

  • Along with other supplements, such as glutamine and essential fatty acids, L-Arginine may help to increase lean body mass in athletes

  • Immune support and in helping to prevent loss of lean body mass.

  • Wound healing and may be beneficial to post-operative patients and burn victims.

  • Has been shown to help reduce pain and other symptoms associated with interstitial cystitis (a bladder and pelvic disorder).

What are Amino Acids?

As the building blocks of protein, amino acids are vital to health. Next to water, amino acids in the form of proteins make up the greatest portion of our body weight. They comprise tendons, muscles and ligaments; organs and glands; hair and nails; important bodily fluids, and are a necessary part of every cell in the body.

There are over 20 amino acids, separated into two categories essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids are those that cannot be manufactured by your body, hence, it is essential that you obtain them from your diet. Non-essential amino acids can be manufactured by your body, however, your body must have the right combination of essential amino acids and supporting nutrients to optimize healthy protein maintenance, so supplementation may be desirable.

What isa free-formAmino Acid?

Free-frommeans the amino acid is in its purest form. Free-form amino acids require no digestion and are absorbed directly into the blood stream.
