It is such great news that dementia is not inevitable even for people who have family that makes them at higher risk of the disease and for that reason it is very great that you have this article which touches on nutrition, supplements and also the lifestyle factors like excercise and healthy social interaction that can make a HUGE difference in someone's life by PREVENTING a disease that is not inevitable or destiny.

I know people with family history and it is so sad as they act like it is fated and WILL happen but with everything I think that we can do our best to change the course or make it less bad and that is such a strong affirmation.

Hello Rachel,
Interesting, thank you for sharing that fact. We're you can relate the information you're learning from some of our articles to your current studies and area of interest. Indeed, gut health is just as important as brain health: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/articles/health-concerns/digestive-health/

Ass you mention, epidemiology suggests that there are specific risk factors for Alzhiemer's that are modifiable such as diet and natural factors/supplements. These factors both, interestingly, affect the population of microbes living within the human gut, or gut microbiome. Animal models provide convincing evidence that the gut microbiome plays a role in Alzhiemer's disease progression and it is exciting to watch as the research emerges on this. Healthful life supports a healthy microbiome and can help prevent Alzhiemer's through this!!

Alzheimer’s Dementia is a problem my mother may be going through right now, it is too early to tell. I need to know which herbs and supplements to focus on for her sake. Environmental toxicity and bad food choices alongside tap water are things she refuses to give up. She has nutritional deficiencies as well. She won't listen to my suggestions and makes fun of herbs. I need to know what's most effective for Alzheimer's

Hello Kelly,

Thank you for your message.
Regarding chelation's potential to "clean the brain" and remove heavy metals from the central nervous system, there is limited evidence to support these claims, though research is ongoing.
The biggest issue is that the brain is protected by the blood-brain barrier, which restricts the entry of many substances, including certain chelating agents. As a result, the removal of heavy metals from the brain through chelation therapy may not be as straightforward as it is in other parts of the body. If you are interested in investigating this further, I suggest you contact a qualified Naturopathic Physician with experience in chelation therapy, who should be able to provide case-specific advice. You can find a list of qualified naturopath's here: https://mycanadiannaturopath.ca

Have a healthy day.
