Grape Seed Extract

The seeds of the fruit of the grape plant (Vitis vinifera) contain certain constituents called oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), which are related to Resveratrol, a potent antioxidant. Grape seed extracts also contain Vitamin E, flavonoids, and linoleic acid. Most of the benefits of grape seed extract are attributed to its OPC content, and the cardiovascular benefits of drinking red wine are due in part to the antioxidant functions.

Antioxidant
OPCs are strong antioxidants, which means that they are substances that protect cells from oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals, on the other hand, are unstable molecules with an unpaired electron that are extremely reactive, and can damage surrounding cell membranes, fats, and fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients. We encounter free radicals through environmental exposures, such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, processed foods, and ultraviolet radiation from the sun (UV rays). In studies, OPCs are shown to be far more powerful than other antioxidants like vitamins E and C. Additionally, they work with the primary antioxidant in the liver called glutathione and recycle vitamin C so it can continue to fight free radicals. OPCs are easily taken in by most cells in the body and even cross the blood brain barrier to provide protection to our brain and nerves. .

Cardiovascular health
OPCs are used for cardiovascular health because they strengthen the collagen lining of vessels, thus improving circulation, and decreasing inflammation and blood clots. This helps to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Anti-aging and Immune Support
OPCs have anti-aging properties because they protect the body from environmental pollutants, and other free radical sources. They also keep tissues, like the skin, elastic and keep the immune system in good working order (to prevent cancer formation). In addition to general immune system support, OPCs also help to prevent improper (allergic) immune responses. They do this by preventing the release of histamine from certain immune cells called mast cells. This reduces systemic inflammation and allergic symptoms like runny nose, congestion and watery eyes.

How can I take grape seed extract?
Grape seed extract can be purchased as a powdered beverage or encapsulated extract. These supplements should be standardized as an assurance of the amount of OPCs they contain. Generally, 40-80% proanthocyanidins or 95% polyphenols are the standardizations used for medicinal use.

This line is absolutely amazing. I have combination oily skin that is also acne prone, and I find that traditional acne face wash products dry my skin out way too much, therefore causing more oil (counterproductive!). The Blue Green Algae cleanser leaves my skin feeling so clean, but never tight or dry, and I'm much less oily than I used to be. I use very little product because a little goes a long way. I use the cleansing lotion in conjunction with the toner and I've gotten amazing results!

I really do like this product! I have oily, acne-prone skin and this works quite nicely. My skin is also somewhat sensitive, so I like this cleanser as it doesn't irritate my skin at all. It works well for oily skin, but I'd advise cleansing every night and morning if you can; this cleanser helps keep the greasiness at bay. I think it works pretty good for acne, as well. So far I have had less break-outs and some of the acne on my chin is clearing up! The product itself has a creamy texture and thicker consistency. It has a very pleasant, fresh, clean smell too. The colour is like a pearly white. (Kind of hard to explain) Congratulations, Aubrey Organics! The Blue Green Algae Facial Cleansing lotion gets a four star rating in my book!

SUPER PRODUCT. GREAT FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE BREAKOUTS. FOR SOME REASON I KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS ONE, AND I THINK I'M GOING TO STICK WITH IT THIS TIME. I USE IT IN THE MORNING AND WHEN I GO TO BED AT night. If your acne is really bad, apply the Amino Derm gel at night. Use a moisturizer in the day. This is still my favorite.

This is an excellent cleanser for combination skin that tends to get a bit oily. I had been trying one product regimen after another for months, but nothing I tried effectively and thoroughly cleaned my skin without stripping it. The Blue Green Algae cleanser not only gets my skin totally clean without over drying, but also removes makeup. I credit the Blue Green Algae collection with normalizing oil production on my face, and greatly improving my complexion.

This is a fantastic cleanser! I use it each morning and it leaves my skin so clean, yet still soft. It took a while to adjust to the lack of lather, but this cleanser definitely doesn't lack effectiveness! It has done wonders for clearing my skin and restoring its texture and I love the scent. I am definitely hooked on this product!
