What is Acetyl L-Carnitine?
It is a unique form of L-Carnitine in that it's the only form of L-Carnitine that's able to cross a blood brain barrier and have benefits ton to the brain.
How does it work to optimize brain function?
It does two things. It provides an acetyl group that is one of the main components of Acetylcholine, which is an important neurotransmitter involved in memory. Also, the L-Carnitine portion helps the body's cells, including the neurons; use their preferred form of fuel, which are long-chain fatty acids.
Who should take it?
The individuals that would benefit most by taking it include individuals that are suffering from cognitive decline. There are a lot of studies that have shown that taking it can slow the progression of dementia for those individuals that have mild cognitive impairment or MCI. We can slow the progression to something like Alzheimer's. We can also see benefits to individuals with autism. It's been studied for cases of ADHD. Again, a lot of brain related or cognitive related disorders can benefit from ALC.
What is the optimal daily dose?
The daily dose is wide ranging. Studies have used anywhere from one thousand milligrams up to three thousand milligrams. So, again, it's one of those situations where you're going to have to experiment with the doses and see what dose is right for you.
Does L-Carnitine have the same effect as Acetyl L-Carnitine?
The difference between them, is that Acetyl L-Carnitine is the only form that is going to benefit the brain. They are similar in the sense that they can both be beneficial to the heart, the muscles, et cetera. But Acetyl L-Carnitine is the only form that benefits the brain.
How do people feel after taking it?
People report different things. Some individuals report lots of energy, others report better clarity in their thinking.
