Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
Ylang-Ylang essential oil is extracted from the flower petals of the Cananga odorata tree, native to the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Queensland, Australia, and, more recently, grown in Thailand and Vietnam.
The ylang-Ylang essential oil contains approximately 30 bioactive compounds and many health-promoting esters and phenols. The oil is prized for myriad medicinal applications and is a perfumery staple. Indeed, the name Ylang-Ylang means "flower of flowers," given to it because of its uniquely floral, sweet, heady, aromatic, fruity, and rich notes. Ylang-Ylang is so enticing, in fact, that it is one of the top notes of Chanel No. 5—one of the most legendary perfumes of all time.
Beyond its iconic scent, Ylang-Ylang is also one of aromatherapy's most widely used oils. It has been shown to improve blood flow, relieve inflammation, promote heart health, lift mood, soothe anxiety, and support digestion.

Therapeutic Properties of Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil
Ylang-Ylang is known as an effective antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and sedative. It has been shown to help stimulate and support the endocrine, cardiovascular, reproductive, and digestive systems and metabolism in general. It may be used via inhalation (directly from the bottle) or added to an essential oil diffuser. It can also be diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the skin through massage. For those looking to benefit from Ylang-Ylang's fragrance, add a few drops to a spray bottle and spritz around the room or on linens to freshen the air and impart a lovely, sweet, and fruity aroma.
Using Aromatherapy Oil
Ylang-Ylang should be used sparingly, because topical use can result in skin reactions in those with sensitive skin. Therefore, a skin patch test is highly recommended before use. Because Ylang-Ylang oil (whether diffused or applied topically) can occasionally affect blood pressure, those with high or low blood pressure should exercise caution.
Moreover, Ylang-Ylang is not appropriate for use around animals. It can be toxic to dogs, so pet owners should refrain from using Ylang-Ylang in diffusers in the home or topically if they will be petting or cuddling their pets.
