WHAT IS GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT?

The grapefruit is a subtropical citrus tree that yields large, sour to semi-sweet, bitter fruit which is composed of 90% water, 8% carbohydrates, 1% protein, and negligible fat. The seeds found in the fruit contain powerful naturally-occurring antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties, as well as are rich in antioxidants, including phenolic acids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and oligomeric proanthocyanin complexes (OPC’s). This explains why Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is often used to help prevent disease and protect against oxidative stress, tissue damage, and inflammation. GSE is also frequently used as a natural remedy for health problems like infections and skin concerns.

GSE is also a mainstay of candidiasis (fungal yeast overgrowth) treatment along with diet and supplementation. Indeed, GSE is frequently used as an anti-fungal and antimicrobial to prevent/halt the spread of Candida albicans yeast inside the body.

BENEFITS of GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT

  • Fungicidal Effect Against all Candida Species
  • Kills Microbes
  • Supports Healthy Blood Pressure
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Supports Circulatory & Vein Health

WHO NEEDS GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT?

Practitioners may recommend GSE to help treat; candidiasis, antibiotic-resistant UTI’s, vaginal yeast infections, athlete’s foot, nail fungus, cold sores, gingivitis, acne, allergies, eczema, colds, and sore throats, as well as digestive disorders.

GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT - POTENCIES, FORMS & FORMATS

Grapefruit seed extract can be purchased in stores and online in capsules and tablets, as well as in liquid concentrate form. There is no set dosing for GSE, but typically health care practitioners will recommend 10 to 12 drops of the liquid extract diluted in a full glass of water, 1-3 times daily, or 100 to 200 mg in capsules or tablets, 1-3 times daily. Keep in mind that the dosing that is appropriate for you is largely dependent on the reason you’re taking it. Always follow label instructions carefully.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT

It's important to note that, taken long-term, GSE can cause/aggravate dysbiosis by depleting good bacteria in the gut. As such, if you need to supplement with GSE for more than three days, a quality probiotic should be added to the supplement regimen, ideally taken a few hours before your dose of GSE. GHE should not be taken during pregnancy or lactation.
