Dr. Bronner’s formulates the popular Castile soap that’s known and loved by many. They make a range of natural, organic body care items that don’t use harsh chemicals like many other personal care items on the market.
Brand History of Dr. Bronner’s
Dr. Bronner’s originated in 1948. From the day it was founded to now, they have been guided by 5 principles: create the best products, do right by customers, be fair to suppliers, fight for good causes, treat the Earth like home, and treat employees like family. Its these principle that have helped guide their success.
In the ’60s and ’70s, Dr Bronner’s soap became an icon as people resonated with the label’s call for peace. During these decades, they also moved to Escondido, California.
By the 1980s, their soap became a mainstream item, and they redesigned their bottles and invented a foam concentrate that’s still used in fighting forest and structure fires.
Fast forward to the new millennium, Dr. Bronner’s started exporting their soaps internationally in 2000. Three years later, they became the largest personal care company to be certified under USDA’s National Organic Program, they changed to 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and instituted fair wage and employment practices.
In more recent years, Dr. Bronner’s has received certification as a Fair Trade company, opened a sister company in Germany to distribute throughout Europe, pioneered a movement to demand labelling of genetically engineered foods, and started labelling products that contain Regenerative Organic Certified ingredients.
Quality Control & Testing Protocols
Dr Bronner’s Soap knows how important its ingredient sourcing and manufacturing stages are. Since 2006, they have been sourcing all their major raw materials from certified Fair Trade sources. They also use a saponification process to make their soaps. This is a one-step reaction that doesn’t generate waste. This process guarantees a result of only soap, glycerin, and water; no alkali remains in their soaps. By retaining the glycerin in their soap products, they offer superb moisturizing qualities. They don’t add chelating agents, dyes, whiteners, or synthetic fragrances; only the purest certified organic essential oils are used.
