Greens Capsules
It’s probably safe to assume that anyone interested in taking a greens superfood supplement is aware of all the impressive health benefits they offer. They may; however, wonder which form best suits their lifestyle, powder, liquid, tablets, or capsules.
Green superfood supplements in capsule form are convenience personified because they are travel-friendly and can be thrown into a purse or gym bag and taken with you wherever you go. Along these same lines, capsules are also more tamper-resistant than tablets, so a better choice if they are to be taken on the go. Additionally, capsules are a convenient way to mask strong flavors and textures that many superfood powders can have, as well as are smaller and easier to swallow than tablets. As a bonus, they are also flavorless, which makes them an ideal choice for many consumers. It's worth mentioning, that green superfood capsules are more expensive than powder forms, for obvious reasons.
Greens Capsule Supplements
Absorption
Green superfood capsules offer similar absorption to powders because they are both transported quickly into the bloodstream. They do; however, offer better bioavailability than tablets.
Dosing
One of the downsides of capsules over powder is that they offer poor dosing flexibility since they are pre-filled and supply a fixed amount of greens. As a frame of reference, a daily dose of green superfood powder is typically somewhere in the 1 to 8g range, which usually works out to one or two scoops. Given that the standard size of a capsule is around 600mg, that means you’ll need to take between 2 to 13 capsules daily. Quite a mouthful!
Green Superfood Capsule Storage
Capsules are more vulnerable to light, heat, moisture and humidity than tablets, but have similar storage requirements as powders. Green capsules and powders should also be stored in a cool, dry space until opened. Once opened; however, powders, unlike capsules, should be placed and kept in the refrigerator to retain potency and flavour.
Capsule Excipients
Most capsules use fillers. The most common of these include magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, as well as artificial colours and flavours. Also worth noting, is that while not excipients, capsules come either in animal-sourced gelatin (porcine, bovine, or fish) shells, or in vegetarian-based shells. It’s important to read labels carefully so you select the product that meets your particular lifestyle and convictions (vegetarian, kosher, or other).
Green Superfood Capsule Potency
There is no set standard when it comes to green superfood supplement potency and dosing. Always read and follow label instructions carefully.
Final Thoughts
Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are taking blood thinners, have gallstones, a bile duct obstruction, stomach ulcers, or excess stomach acid. Discontinue use if allergy occurs. If your green superfood supplements have added herbs and you suffer from a medical condition, check with your health care provider before taking the product.
