Honibe’s Sweet History

Honibe was founded in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island by John Rowe. John became obsessed with the health benefits of honey so much that he took a jar of it with him everywhere. However, this became inconvenient when travelling and when he broke a jar of honey while hiking in bear country, he knew there had to be an easier solution. That’s when the lightbulb went off and he thought about distilling honey into a solid form without decreasing its integrity. This idea led John and his wife, Sue, to open the first Honibe factory in their basement and begin research and experimentation. It was through this experimentation that they developed the world’s first solid honey product, The Honey Drop.

With the launch of its first product in 2007, Honibe quickly took the nation by storm, selling over 12,000 units in its first 2 weeks. Still to this day, Honibe has kept this momentum, and in:

• 2010: it received the prestigious Global SIAL D’OR Medal, the Best of Canada award, and the Best Sweet Grocery Store Worldwide.
• 2011: it was invited to pitch its products on CBC TV’s Dragon’s Den
• 2013: Chris Hadfield brought a pack of Honey Drops to space on his shuttle mission

• 2019: Honibe has expanded to 6,000 retailers across Canada

• 2022: partnered with Barbie to launch 3 products

Its products are manufactured using proprietary technology in its GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) compliant facility in Charlottetown, PEI, where its entire process meets Health Canada’s strict regulations.

All of Honibe’s products are made with 100% natural honey that’s delicious, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals and never with refined sugars, chemicals, or other unwanted additives. Furthermore, all of its products are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and gelatin-free (except its omega-3 gummies). Its products containing B12 are made with USP-grade cyanocobalamin, and each honey drop contains 1/2 tsp of pure honey.
