CHLOROPHYLL
Chlorophyll can be found in many green leafy vegetables and is naturally great way to maintain and healthy lifestyle ...

Chlorophyll is a group of green pigments that allow plants to capture energy from the sun. It is most well known as a deodorizing and breath freshening agent by speeding the release of toxins from the bloodstream. Commercial chewing gums, toothpastes, mouthwashes and deodorants often have chlorophyll added to it for this reason.

Chlorophyll is a very nutritious substance because it contains large amounts of magnesium. It is used for blood disorders, like anemia, because a molecule of chlorophyll resembles the human hemoglobin (oxygen-carrying) molecule. Chlorophyll also has antioxidant properties and therefore, protects our cells from damage due to free radicals. Natural health practitioners for a variety of conditions including body odour, bad breath, detoxification, anemia, inflammation and wound healing recommend chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll is abundant in many grasses and sprouts. It is added to chewing gum and mints. As a supplement it is found in tablet or liquid form. The liquid form is concentrated and should be diluted with water. Sometimes mint is added to chlorophyll liquid to give it a fresh taste, otherwise there is no taste to chlorophyll. You may even find chlorophyll already added to bottled water. Green food supplements are combinations of medicinal foods and herbs that are high in chlorophyll as well as other nutrients.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

One of the core principals of TCM is the idea that there must be balance of yin versus yang in order for the body to work at its optimal level. This balance must be maintained in order to optimize our qi (the life force, or spiritual energy of the body), blood, and jing (the essence we are born with and irreversibly lost as we get older). The organs can also be classified in terms of their yin (or Zang) and yang (Fu) functions. The functions of the Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung, Kidney and Pericardium make them Zang organs, while the small intestine, large intestine, gallbladder, urinary bladder and stomach are all Fu or Yang organs. Under this model each yin organ is paired with a yang order in order to maintain that balance (Heart and Small intestine, Liver and gallbladder, etc.).

There are also meridians or channels along the body which correspond to these different organ systems. Acupuncture points are placed all along these different channels, with the idea that tapping into one certain point taps into a specific function (in the form of energy) along that channel. Certain pathologies can be diagnosed in terms of excess or deficiency of qi, blood or essence along any of these channels.
