Sun Chlorella’s Rich History

Originating in Japan, Sun Chlorella was founded in 1969 by Hideo Nakayama. It began when Hideo stumbled upon chlorella and was impressed by the positive impact it had on his poor health. Originally named Heian Chlorella Jeeffcy Co. Ltd., this brand went through a couple of name changes before getting its current name.

In 1970, it produced its first product, and after many trials and errors, it perfected its Dyno-Mill method of pulverizing chlorella’s hard cell wall to increase digestibility and keep nutrients intact. By 1981, Sun Chlorella received a patent for this method.

In the early ‘80s, it founded its US division in Los Angeles and in the early 2000s, its chlorella product was certified as a health food in China, and soon after, its Shanghai and London branches were established. By 2016, Futoshi Nakayama was welcomed as Sun Chlorella’s new CEO, and he still holds this position today.

Aside from expanding its business, Sun Chlorella believes in giving back. It supports:

• The Gentle Barn, an organization that supports animal care

Quality Standards & Manufacturing Process

Sun Chlorella is committed to quality and conducts operations with safety as a top priority. It formulates all products in its GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) facility that’s certified by the Japan Health & Nutrition Food Association. The JHFA only approves products and facilities that pass its rigorous quality standards.

Sun Chlorella puts safety first when sourcing its raw materials and throughout the production process. It only selects strains of Chlorella that are potent and grown outdoors. Since Chlorella needs delicate growing conditions, Sun Chlorella grows its raw materials in Taiwan.

With its patented approach to breaking down chlorella, Sun Chlorella’s technology doesn’t use chemicals or enzymes when pulverizing the cell wall of the plant. This yields a product that’s rich in nutrients and offers high digestibility.

All of Sun Chlorella’s final products are tested and certified by a third party, and they also have NSF and Informed Choice certifications, ensuring they are clean from banned substances and safe for athletes.
