Aromatherapy Diffusers: Benefits and Uses
Essential oils are defined as "volatile liquids and aromatics compounds found within shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds" and have been revered for their healing powers for centuries. Quality essential oils are extracted using low-pressure and low-temperature steam distillation and cold-pressed in the case of citrus peels. Essential oils contain hundreds of unique plant compounds that work synergistically. While essential oils can be diluted and applied topically, they can also be used in an aromatherapy diffuser
Depending on your chosen oil, it can provide relaxing, energizing, stimulating, sedating, or calming effects. Essential oils can also help improve mood, boost mental focus and concentration, reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, fungus, and viruses, relieve nausea and soothe migraine headaches and stress.
When using essential oils, it's good to have an understanding on how to dilute the oils for safe and effective use, know which ones to blend together, and on how to use them in different formats such as topical application, cleaning aids or in diffusers. In fact, diffusion is also one of the most popular methods of using essential oils.
Discovering Aromatherapy: How Diffusers Enhance Your Well-being
Diffusing oils is a great way to start your day off right, boost your energy, focus and concentration in the afternoon, and relax and soothe you once bedtime rolls around. An aromatherapy diffuser is a low-effort entry into optimal self-care that make the world of essential oils accessible and easy to incorporate into your daily routine. In a nutshell, diffusers are devices that break essential oils down into smaller molecules, dispersing them into tiny breathable particles for a pleasant or calming effect, depending on the oil you put into the diffuser.
Essential oil diffusers can be broken down into four different types, which you can choose according to the intensity of the effect desired, the of your space, and, of course, your budget. These include:
Nebulizing Diffusers: work by using pressurized air to diffuse an oil mist. This diffuser doesn’t require water or heat, making it easy to maintain, but it is also typically the costliest.
Humidifying Diffusers: also called "ultrasonic diffusers," break up oil molecules to create a fine mist. This type of device requires you to dilute essential oils with water for the diffuser’s electronic frequencies to release the oil in a mist of water into the air.
Evaporative Diffusers: In this type of aromatherapy diffuser, a small fan helps turn oil into gas, making oil evaporate into the air. However, as the oil evaporates, it loses some of its potency.
Heat Diffusers: as the name suggests, heat diffusers use heat to evaporate essential oils into the air. Most heat diffusers don't use electricity; they use a candle that heats an oil reservoir. This type of diffuser does not let you control the diffusion of the oil.
