The best multivitamin, also known as Multi Vitamin Minerals, have been used for decades in North America and other parts of the globe. While Multi Vitamins are not meant to replace a healthy diet they do offer a means of preventing potential nutrient deficiencies from developing if your diet is a little less than ideal.
What Are Multivitamins?
Multivitamins are natural health products which combine primary vitamins and minerals you need for health, all in one product. This limits having to take numerous separate products at one time to get all you need.
Today you can find Multi-Vitamins combined with Greens Products, Probiotics, Raw Foods, Superfoods, Essential fats and more.
Advantages of Taking A Multivitamin
The best multivitamin supplements are used as a basis for providing essential nutrients – vitamins and minerals – to one’s diet.
Because the Standard American and Canadian diet is not generally adequate for providing all you need nutritionally, a Multi-Vitamin can assist. Taking small doses of multiple vitamins and minerals daily will reduce deficiencies from developing.
Another reason to consider a Multi Vitamin Mineral is that studies show our commercially grown food is far less nutrient-dense than it used to be 50 years ago. There are numerous reasons for this, including over-farming practices creating nutrient-deficient soil. So by taking a Multi Vitamin Mineral, you help make up for a lack of nutrients in our soil.
And if you have health concerns you can find Multi-Vitamins geared to specific health issues like Blood Sugar Control, Cardiovascular Health, Women’s and Men’s Health, Pregnancy and Paediatrics.
The Effect Multivitamins Have On Your Health
Vitamins and minerals work in your body in an infinite number of ways. B Vitamins are important for your nervous system, your hormone system and cholesterol levels. Fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A support your mucus membranes which is important in maintaining a healthy immune system. Vitamin E is important for cardiovascular health and is a potent antioxidant which protects your cells from cellular damage. Minerals support bone, collagen and teeth health. Minerals alkalize your body and also act as cofactors for your detoxification system. And the list goes on.
Vitamins and minerals are central to a healthy functioning body.
Selecting The Best Multivitamin Supplements For Good Health
Take a Multi-Vitamin as recommended daily. You can find Multi-Vitamins in tablet, capsule, liquid or powdered forms. When combined with a Green’s product in the powdered form they are great in a morning health shake combined with Omega 3 oil, and hemp protein powder – which gives your body added fibre and the nine essential amino acids you need for protein, Chia seeds, and extra antioxidant powdered products like Match Green tea and Freeze Dried Acai berry.

I've always relied on multivitamins. Some days I just don't have time for a good meal, so I rely on these vitamins to give me the boost that I need.
Hello Lorraine,
Indeed, multivitamins are a great way to fill the gap in nutrition. Even on a well balanced diet, sometimes the body doesn't absorb all the nutrients from food sources as well as it can from supplements; therefore multi-vitamins can support that balance in health.
Stay healthy & well!
This is a great article, thank you for sharing! It is a great idea to add a multivitamin to your morning protein shake or smoothie, it makes it more convenient as I often forget to take my vitamins and end up taking them at different times of days each day! I know its important to take them around the same time every day and with or without food depending on the vitamin so a multivitamin would be a great way for someone who often switches up the time of day the take theirs at because they forget! So much more convenient to only have one to take too!
Hello,
If you use a powdered or liquid multi, adding it to your smoothie is a great way to take your supplements. You can also open a capsule or veggie cap; however it's important to know that the supplement can then by pass the stomach that way. Multi's are a great way to fill in nutrient gaps that diet alone could be missing.
I take a multi vitamin daily to obtain all the essential vitamins and minerals in one pill! I usually buy one that has got a good amount of B vitamins along with Vit C. My go-to brand is Sisu and I purchase it during a sale at National Nutrition. Honestly, I think taking a daily multi is essential in the long run because your body is not deprived of minerals that we generally don’t think of taking.
Hello Roger,
Thank you for sharing what brand of multi you enjoy. Sisu offers many great supplements and their multi vitamins provide great overall support. Multi's are important to fill in the gaps in nutrition, since many foods today are missing nutrients and minerals due to poor soil and different cooking methods.
Have a healthy day!
Which Multi do you feel is the best? I did read an article you company wrote about Multi's, which do you feel is best?
Hello Mary Lou,
Thank you for your inquiry about multi-vitamins. There are many different varieties available, which can make it confusing in selecting one for your needs. Prairie Naturals offers many great formulas with targeted health concerns for those of certain age groups, vegans and even athletes. You can also speak to one of our certified team members at 1-800-526-9772 and they would be happy to help you find the best multi vitamin to suit your concerns and needs.
Have a healthy day!
I wholeheartedly agree that vitamins and minerals are central to a healthy, functioning body. One recent reminder of this came in that my Brother was having trouble with weight gain disproportionate to what he was consuming and maintenence on critically low calories-it turns out he was deficient in zinc, selenium, and iodine, which are all important for metabolism! That said, he supplemented those individually, as do I. This is because it can be difficult to find a good multivitamin-many multivitamins contain high amounts of iron and copper which are subject to oxidation and thus a risk for neurological health.
