The Commiphora mukul plant belongs to the Burseraceae family, also known as the "incense family," which also includes Commiphora wightii, Commiphora gileadensis, Boswellia serrata, and Boswellia sacra.
Guggul has long been a staple of Ayurvedic medicine. It contains a unique blend of plant compounds, including steroids, essential oils, lignans, flavonoids, carbohydrates, and amino acids, that impart potent therapeutic activity.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, guggul extract aims to balance all three doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha, though it is best at alleviating vata-associated conditions such as fear, feelings of anxiety, dry skin, cracking joints, difficulty sleeping, and inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
