Detailed Ingredient Descriptions:
Bromelain is a proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme derived from pineapple juice pulp. it is a great digestive enzyme when taken with meals. However, when taken away from food, Bromelain is a natural anti-inflammatory. Bromelain's anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to its ability to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins (chemicals that promote inflammation). Bromelain has therapeutic effects in the treat- ment of inflammation and soft tissue injuries. these two characteristics allow bromelain to speed recovery from sports injuries, control swelling after surgery and reduce muscle pains and strains. it reduces inflammation by breaking down proteins in swollen tissues. if administered before surgery, bromelain can reduce the average number of days for complete disappearance of pain and inflammation after surgery. currently, brome- lain's most popular anti-inflammatory effects have been found in treating rheumatoid arthritis. it blocks the formation of kinins, compounds that cause swelling in rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, it is able to digest fibrin. fibrin is another compound implicated in not only rheumatoid arthritis, but ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, sciatica and scleroderma.
Boswellia serrata is a traditional Ayurvedic herb that has been used for a variety of inflam- matory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. recently, researchers and clinicians have confirmed that boswellia is an anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and a pain reliever. Some studies have shown dramatic improvement in both osteo and rheu- matoid arthritis within two to four weeks of starting a supplement containing boswellia. research has identified specific active anti-inflammatory ingredients in this herb, which are commonly referred to as boswellic acids. Boswellic acids have been found to inhibit inflammation by blocking the synthesis of leukotrienes. leukotrienes cause inflamma- tion by promoting free radical damage and they signal the migration of inflammation -producing cells to the inflamed body area. unlike NSAids, long term use of boswellia does not lead to irritation or ulceration of the stomach and it appears to have no significant side effects or toxicity. in a randomized double-blind placebo controlled crossover study of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, boswellia was found to be effective at de- creasing knee pain, increasing knee flexion and increasing walking distance.
Ginger has been used in herbal traditions to treat acute and chronic inflammatory con- ditions. Various studies have demonstrated ginger to have potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. five constituents of ginger have been identified to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, the same mechanism by which aspirin and other NSAids exert their anti-inflammatory effects. in a recent study of 261 people with osteoarthritis of the knee, those who received a ginger extract twice daily experienced less pain and required fewer painkilling medications compared to those who received a placebo.
Stinging nettle has a long-standing use as an anti-inflammatory aid for arthritis and it is also recognized by the German commission E as an effective supportive therapy for rheumatic ailments. Several clinical studies (including a randomized double-blind pla- cebo trial) have also shown that nettle has anti-inflammatory actions and is effective at relieving arthritis pain and inflammation in humans. research suggests that nettle's anti-inflammatory actions are attributed to its ability to interrupt the production and actions of inflammation-producing immune cells in the body (cytokines, prostaglandins and leukotreines).
Rosemary is a natural pain killer. it is a coX-2 inhibitor, a potent antioxidant, an anti- septic, a decongestant and an antispasmodic. it can relax muscles, including those of the digestive tract and the uterus. there are some indications that rosemary may also protect the liver from toxicity and that it can be beneficial for headaches. components of rosemary have been shown to have anti-arthritic effects in animal trials. two of the most important ingredients in rosemary, caffeic acid and rosmarinic acid, are thought to be largely responsible for many of rosemary's therapeutic actions and are potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents.
Curcumin is the main biologically active phytochemical compound of turmeric. turmeric is a spice derived from the rhizomes of curcuma longa, which has been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Curcumin is extracted from turmeric, concentrated and stan- dardized. Extensive research has been conducted over the years on curcumin and research supports a wide range of health benefits including antioxidant effects and modulation of the production of inflammatory signal molecules. curcumin are powerful anti-inflammatory phytochemicals that act as natural cyclooxygenase-2 (coX-2) inhibi- tors in the body and inhibit the production of the prostaglandins that cause inflammation and swelling. indian researchers found that turmeric relieved joint pain and swelling in people suffering with arthritis with effectiveness comparable to NSAids (such as acet- aminophen and ibuprophen), but without side effects like abdominal bleeding or stomach upset. due to turmeric's low rate of absorption, it is often formulated with bromelain for increased absorption and enhanced anti-inflammatory effects.
Green tea extract is rich in polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGcG) which have demonstrated significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, probiotic and antimicrobial properties in numerous human, animal and in vitro (lab) studies. Green tea polyphenols inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotri- enes, resulting in a decreased inflammatory response. Green tea is an important coX-2 blocker and is a powerful antioxidant which helps to clean up free radicals that often contribute to or cause inflammation.
Holy Basil extract is an adaptogenic herb with anti-inflammatory properties. Active mol- ecules within the herb promote a healthy inflammatory response, regulate blood sugar levels and decrease an individual's stress response. Animal research examining edema has shown that holy basil can influence at least two major inflammatory pathways in the body. findings in numerous other studies continue to suggest that holy basil can help the body recover from injuries, adjust to various forms of stress and reduce minor aches and pains. More research on human subjects needs to be done, but results look promising that holy basil might be as effective as over-the-counter painkillers, without the potential of damaging the delicate lining of the stomach.
Resveratrol is a catechin compound found in grapes and some fruits. resveratrol is most abundant in immature grapes. it is an important coX-2 blocker and an impressive an- tioxidant that works to clean up the free radicals causing or contributing to inflammation. catechins, as a family of compounds, appear to decrease histamine (which can cause inflammation) and they can exert a mild anti-inflammatory action in rheumatoid arthritis.
Combination Rationale
Pain-Pro formula is a safe and innovative product that can help reduce inflammation and reduce pain. Pain-Pro formula is a natural blend of food enzymes and herbs that have been used in different parts of the world for centuries.
Pain-Pro formula contains herbs and food enzymes that modulate the arachidonic acid pathway, which is one of the main mechanisms for the production of pain and inflammation in the body. the principal pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism are the 5-lipoxygenase pathway, which produces a collection of leukotrienes, and the cy- clooxygenase (coX) pathway, which produces inflammatory molecules prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Bromelain, ginger and stinging nettle work by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Boswellia, rosemary, green tea, turmeric, holy basil and resveratrol act as natural coX-2 inhibitors.
Each ingredient in the formula can stand alone to effectively work with pain and inflamma- tion however, as a combination, these ingredients create a striking pain reduction formula.
Pain-Pro formula is a multi-purpose pain reliever that works at reducing pain and in- flammation throughout the body including the joints, muscles and connective tissues. it is an ideal formula for individuals wanting to effectively manage chronic or sporadic pain but who also want to avoid taking Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAids) or coX-2 inhibitor drugs.
