Dr Hauschka’s Origin Story
While his natural skincare line wasn’t established until 1967, Dr Hauschka’s experience in natural chemistry began in 1929 when he established a process for making plant extracts based on water so they could stay stable without alcohol or preservatives. He also offered skin care products along with pharmaceutical ones to WALA Medicines.
In 1962, Dr Hauschka met researcher, developer, and esthetician Elisabeth Sigmund. Five years later, they launched their skincare line, which was developed to meet people's needs.
Intending to bring chemistry back to nature, Dr Hauschka cosmetics has always put its trust in the power of nature. All of their ingredients are 100% natural, with many of them being organic. When they can’t source organic forms, they cultivate their own. Currently, 80% of their ingredients are organic. While most are plant-based ingredients, they aren’t all vegan because Dr Hauschka uses animal-derived ingredients like beeswax in some of its products.
Beyond creating first-class products, Dr Hauschka follows environmentally friendly practices. Most of its raw ingredients are harvested by hand either in its herb garden or farm. They also follow organic farming practices to protect waters and strengthen soil and biodiversity.
Quality Ingredients = Quality Products
Dr Hauschka skincare only uses the best 100% natural ingredients and selects organic when possible. Each of its products contains zero mineral oils, silicones, PEGS, or synthetic preservatives, and they do not conduct animal testing. Instead, products are tested on volunteers.
Each product is NATRUE certified. This certification sets the international quality standard for natural and organic cosmetics worldwide. To obtain this certification, products must adhere to NATRUE’s strict standards, and the ingredients in each formula must pass independent lab testing.
Its manufacturing process honours age-old knowledge with state-of-the-art technology. Its labs also conduct research with botanical ingredients to discover new botanicals that can enhance its formulas or create new products and to research new ways of manufacturing.
Dr Hauschka not only harvests its raw materials by hand, but many of its manufacturing processes are also done by hand. Every ingredient that enters its facility is analyzed and checked for tolerability and effectiveness. Final products are also tested for efficacy by independent labs. This way, customers can trust the products they are using and have faith in Dr Hauschka’s transparent labels that are clear and easy to understand.
