Manufacturer Info

Herbatint specializes in natural hair colour and care products made from botanical extracts. Founded in 1970, Herbatint has the expert in permanent herbal hair colouring without ammonia by paying attention to quality control of the raw material, GMP standards, microbiological and toxicological analysis of the end product.

Herbatint not only conditions whilst it colours but it is also the most gentlest permanent hair colour on the market, as recently substantiated by a Consumer Toxicology Report. Herbatint Hair Colours are also suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians.

Herbatint FAQ's

1. What is HERBATINT?
HERBATINT is a permanent hair colourant gel with a natural herbal base that contains NO AMMONIA, but will cover grey 100% and can lighten you hair up to 2 shades.

2. Tell me about Phenylenediamines, or PPD's as they are frequently called.
Phenylenediamines (PPD's) are chemically synthesised ingredients and are the colour pigments used to alter your hair's natural shade. It has been suggested through research that PPD's are 'potentially' harmful, i.e. cell growth-causing agents. However, there is no evidence linking the use of hair colourants containing PPDs with cell growths in humans.

However a small percentage of people develop an allergy to permanent hair colour pigments. This can result in a serious reaction. If you have been diagnosed as having an allergy to:
p-phenylenediamine (PPD or Para Dyes) m-phenylenediamine p-aminophenol m-aminophenol

you should not use ANY Permanent Hair Colour.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the allergy can unfortunately arise at any point, irrespective of how long you have been colouring your hair. In light of this we strongly recommend that everyone follows the manufacturer's advice and do a skin test before EVERY application of permanent hair colour.

3. Does HERBATINT contain Phenylenediamines (PPD's)?
Like all permanent hair colour products Herbatint does contain PPD's, which are the only type of pigments that will fix in the hair shaft.

4. Will HERBATINT cover my grey?
HERBATINT covers grey 100% on its first application. If you are 25% grey or more remember to mix your chosen fashion shade (gold, copper or mahogany) with the appropriate number from the natural series. For instance target shade 6D (Dark golden blonde) with 6N (Dark blonde). For 30% grey mix 1/3 6N with 2/3 6D. For 50% grey, or more mix 6N with 6D. Some grey hair can be particularly resistant. Here are some hairdresser tips:

1. Having applied the tint gently massage the root hair for about 5 minutes concentrating on the hairline, parting and temple areas.

OR

2. Mix 10ml of colour with 10ml of developer and apply to the obvious grey roots. Leave this for 20 minutes and then apply your colour, as usual, over the top and commence as normal.

OR

3. Apply colour to root area and using a hand-held dryer gently warm the most resistant areas for about 5 minutes.

5. I don't want to use a permanent colour because I don't like to see an obvious re-growth.
HERBATINT can be mixed and used like a tone on tone colour that will gradually fade over 16-20 shampoos resulting in less obvious root re-growth. Mix, for example, 30mls of HERBATINT with 15ml of Glycol developer and 15ml of Normalising Shampoo. Apply to pre-shampooed, towel-dried hair and develop for 20-25 minutes.

6. Why should I use Normalising Shampoo and Royal Cream Conditioner?
Unlike the ammonia-based colourants HERBATINT works at a low pH which means that we can close the hair cuticles after tinting, by using HERBATINT's Normalising Shampoo and Royal Cream Conditioner. This will result in colour that will not fade to the extent of ammonia-based colourants. The hair will feel soft and smooth and with the cuticle closed the hair will reflect light and look shinier.

7. I have had chemotherapy treatment and would like to colour my hair.
HERBATINT has many customers who have had chemotherapy treatments and have used the colourants quite safely. We would not recommend use of permanent colours in these cases, but if you are determined to colour your hair it is far safer to use HERBATINT as it contains NO AMMONIA and deposits far less potentially hazardous substances into the blood system.

8. I am pregnant and I have been told that permanent hair colours can be potentially dangerous for my unborn child.
Again, as with cell growth sufferers HERBATINT would not recommend the use of permanent hair colours while pregnant. However, many of our customer do use the colours in these instances; Jane Leeves the actress from the T.V. programme 'Frazier' has openly claimed that her hairdresser used HERBATINT on her hair while she was pregnant. NO AMMONIA means far less of the product finds its way into they blood system.

9. Can I use HERBATINT on my beard?
HERBATINT is not recommended for use on facial hair, however, we do know many customers who use it very successfully for this purpose. Avoid swallowing any - it tastes disgusting! DO NOT use on eyebrows, or eyelashes.

10. I have had allergic reactions to ammonia tints in the past; will I react to HERBATINT?
In practice, we have found that approximately 85% of people who have reacted in the past DO NOT react to HERBATINT. With NO AMMONIA present very little of the product penetrates the epidermis and consequently does not enter the blood system. However, we still strongly advise performing a skin test prior to tinting your hair. A small number of people have allergic reactions to all kinds of substances.

11. What is VEGETAL colour?
VEGETAL colour is a true semi-permanent colour that lasts 6-8 shampoos. It imports shine and condition to the hair with a hint of colour. VEGETAL Colour contains NO AMMONIA, NO PEROXIDE and NO DIAMINOBENZENE

12. Will VEGETAL cover my Grey?
If you are experiencing the first few greys VEGETAL will tone these to look like natural lights in your hair. If you are more than 10% grey you need to use HERBATINT which can be mixed as a tone on tone colour and will cover your grey.

13. Can I change my hair colour with VEGETAL Colour?
VEGETAL Colour will brighten your natural shade, but will not alter it.

Herbatint Reviews

Pamela Hines - October 2009
I just recently used Herbatint and love it! I was using another natural hair color, which I also love, and the store where I purchased had run out so I bought the Herbatint. My hair feels so healthy and it was so easy to use. I take the products to my hair dresser and ask her to use on my hair instead of the products she uses that are so full of harsh chemicals. At first she was reluctant, but after seeing how effectively these natural products color my hair she is convinced. I own a small boutique and sell natural skin care products. As I am more and more immersed in this industry I am appreciating how damaging and detrimental the products we are using are to our bodies and to our environment. I wish more consumers could be made aware and we shift towards more natural products. Thank you for doing such an excellent job with the Herbatint hair colors.

Stella Richardson from Kent
I am extremely pleased with the grey coverage and also the shine which compares with nothing else that either myself or the hairdresser has used for many many years.

Carol Hall from London
I had cancer 10 years ago and my hair has not looked nice since, until I used your product, since then I have been able to grow my hair and it not only in good condition but shiny and thicker as well.

Alice from London
Friend say " that colour must be natural."

Frances Colton from London
As a first time user of Herbatint I wanted to tell you how delighted I am with results. The colour is natural looking and just as importantly it covered the un-wanted grey.

Mrs C Rix
I am very pleased with Herbatint I have been using it as a semi-permanent colour and am pleased with results.

Jan Barker from Cornwall
?the results are great no more grey roots many, many thanks.

Anne M Riecker from Palm Springs
I just used Herbatint for the first time and my hair colour turned out great? I didn?t think that something I bought from a Health Store would deliver as good a result as the Clairol product I have been using. My hair looks better now and I am happy to be using Herbatint?.

Janet from Saltash
I am delighted, my hair is so soft and in such good condition, unlike other hair dyes, colouring with Herbatint? actually improves the condition and it doesn't smell when I put it on.

Rosemary Maskell, Newbury - September 2004
I am absolutely delighted with Herbatint. On the first application I couldn't believe the change in my hair. I love the colour, and also my hair looks so healthy and makes me feel wonderful. I will reccomend it to all my friends

Sue Bund - July 2006
Further to your info, I wanted to let you know that I successfully used 8N and was delighted with the results. I found the product very easy and pleasant to use - no horrible chemical pongs - and it has lasted far longer than the previous "normal" hair colourants I've used and has left my hair in top condition. I've just ordered packs of 8N and 7N so I can go a little darker at the end of summer. Thanks again,
