Creators of the first ammonia-free natural hair dye, Herbatint is an herbal hair dye brand made with natural ingredients.
Brand History of Herbatint Hair Color
Established in 1970, Herbatint was founded by herbalist Michele Albergo and owned by Antica Erboristeria. Their flagship product was the permanent gel and Royal Jelly shampoos. It has always believed in the power of clean beauty and still stands by its founding principles:

Fast-forward to 2012, when Antica Erboristeria was acquired by La Financiere Maconnaise, a French group of natural cosmetics. By 2016, they were recognized as a B Corp and Benefit Corporation, and in 2017, their headquarters relocated north of Rome. Their site is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and is responsible for the whole production chain, from research to manufacturing and distribution.
Herbatint prioritizes the health of the planet and animals in everything it does. It uses less energy than a standard industrial building, is powered by green energy from wind and solar sources, and advocates for animal rights; therefore, it doesn’t test on animals. Herbatint is available in 41 countries and is a leader in permanent, ammonia-free hair colour.
Quality Control Process
Herbatint is made with 8 organic herbs and has been tested on sensitive skin to ensure its safety. Antica Erboristeria controls the whole manufacturing process from research to final product to ensure their strict standards are followed.
They start by carefully selecting herbal extracts from suppliers that undergo a rigorous inspection to ensure responsible resource management and fair worker treatment. Their safety and strict quality procedures are confirmed by international (ISO) and International Featured Standards (IFS) certifications.
In 2005, they reformulated to remove resorcinol and parabens and add new plant extracts. Their formulas use the finest ingredients and are tested throughout the manufacturing process for efficacy, purity, and sensitivity.
