Discover the world of Reishi. This medicinal mushroom has been used in traditional herbal medicine for over 2000 years.
Mikei’s Rich Brand History
Mikei was founded by the Mayuzumis family over 40 years ago. However, mushrooms are in their family's DNA. This multi-generational mushroom-growing family started cultivating mushrooms in the 1930s and was the first to commercially cultivate it.
In 1997, Mikei introduced its red reishi essence to the North American market, and North Americans have loved these products ever since.
Mikei carefully selected its logo. One symbol translates to blessing because Mikei feels blessed that nature provides the means for red reishi mushroom to be grown. The remaining symbols translate to red reishi.
The Mikei Difference
Mikei is a member of the Japanese Reishi Association and has been cultivating its reishi in a natural and organic environment since the 1970s. They grow their mushrooms using a technique pioneered by their family in Japan, known as natural wood log cultivation.
From cultivating to drying, the process takes an entire year to complete. Their labour-intensive method yields the highest quality of reishi.
They start by sowing the Mayuzumi strain to create a starter culture, this takes 3 months. The logs are then prepared for inoculation and incubation which takes another 3.5 months. After the incubation period, the logs are buried in nutrient-rich soil in their greenhouse, it then takes around 4 months for the reishi fruiting body to mature. This part of the process is closely monitored for 4.5 months. Once full maturation is reached, the reishi is finally ready to be harvested. It is hand collected for drying and hot water extraction, this final stage of the process takes 1 month.
Each product is made by experts in compliance with the highest Japanese quality standards. Every formula is sourced from premium raw materials that go through a rigorous independent lab testing process for potency to ensure high ganoderic acid A content in each product.
