NUTIVA ORGANIC REFINED COCONUT OIL
The benefit of refined coconut oil is that it has a higher smoke point than virgin coconut oil. You can cook with it at up to 400F (versus 350F for virgin coconut oil). It also has a neutral scent and flavor (versus virgin coconut oil which has a distinct coconut smell and flavor). Unlike other companies that use chemicals, Nutiva Refined Coconut Oil is made though a steam refining process. Absolutely no chemicals are used!
This makes it ideal for recipes where a coconut flavor is not desired. Refined Coconut Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil have 63% Medium Chain Triglycerides and 50% Lauric Acid.
Once a central part of the traditional Pacific Islander diet, luscious coconut is fast becoming a staple in modern healthy diets as well. Coconut contains lauric acid, a medium-chain fatty acid also found in human breast milk. Lauric acid makes up about 50% of coconut oil.
Our coconut products come from Southeast Asia, where the coconut oil is processed immediately upon harvesting. The creamy, white meat of the coconut is scooped out of the shell by hand. What you get is simply the creamy, fresh flavor of pure coconut.
Coconut oil is extremely versatile and can be used as an alternative to butter and other vegetable oils. A solid at cooler temperatures, it becomes liquid when warmed. It takes heat well and can be used for baking, sauting, stir-frying or anywhere else you would use vegetable oil, shortening or butter.
Coconut oil is about 50 percent lauric acid, a rare medium-chain fatty acid found in mother's milk that supports healthy metabolism and is now being studied for its anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties. Overall, coconut oil contains 92% saturated fats, and only 1% Omega-6, the fat Americans get way too much of.
The Health Benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil
The health benefits of coconut oil consist of good hair care, skincare, stress relief, cholesterol level upkeep, weight reduction, enhanced immune system, proper digestion and regulated metabolic process. Additionally, it provides relief from renal problems, cardiovascular system diseases, high bloodstream pressure, HIV and diabetes and cancers, whilst helping to improve dental quality and bone power. These benefits of oil could be attributed to the existence of lauric acidity, capric acidity and caprylic acidity, as well as their respective qualities, such as antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, anti-fungus, antibacterial and calming characteristics.
Baby formulas often include pure coconut oil as an ingredient because coconut is such a healthy super food. Virgin coconut oil is rich in the essential fatty acids, the "good fats" that doctors recommend and is cholesterol - and trans fat-free.
Health Properties of Lauric Acid& Healing Coconut Oil
One of the "good fats" that makes up about 50% of coconut oil, is lauric acid. Lauric acid is a rare medium-chain fatty acid found in mother's milk. It is now being shown to have anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties. Some researchers predict that lauric acid will one day become as well known in health circles as Omega-3 is today. We suggest consuming 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil a day.
Hemp and coconut oil products deliver the nourishing "good fats, which can play a vital role in our health. Millions of Nutiva customers are questioning the outmoded assumptions regarding "zero fat is good", "tropical fats are bad," and "lots of vegetable oils are beneficial". The traditional Pacific Islander diet included large quantities of coconut meat and oil, and those who still follow this diet have a low incidence of heart disease or weight issues.
Besides its nutritional value, pure coconut oil also makes a luscious and soothing massage and body oil for dry, damaged skin and hair.
Coconut Oil and Diabetes
It may come as a surprise to many of today's dieters, but there is such a thing as "good fat," nutrition and medical experts say. "Good fats" also known as "essential fatty acids" (EFAs), are as important to human life and health as are vitamins and minerals.
Because the human body produces no EFAs, it is important that EFAs be consumed on a regular basis. More than 50 years of medical research has proven without a doubt that EFAs can influence the human body in a number of ways, including cardiovascular health, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, brain function, infant development, immune function and cancer prevention. Thus consume the freshest seeds and or oil possible and store them in a dark, cold environment such as a refrigerator. Nutiva obtains its seeds exclusively from Canada.
