Yellow Dock
By: Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.)
Yellow Dock can be used for detoxification as it greatly reducing toxins...
Yellow dock is considered an alternative herb, an herb that alters unhealthy conditions and tends to restore normal functioning to the body. It removes toxins from the body by cleaning the blood, thus it is used for skin conditions, like acne, eczema and psoriasis, which are considered to result from toxin accumulation. Yellow dock can also be used to cleanse toxins from the intestinal tract.
It is a bitter herb that causes the release of digestive juices and bile, thus helping with intestinal, gallbladder and liver cleansing. Yellow dock also targets chronic respiratory problems like dry coughs, shortness of breath and sore throat. Yellow dock is recommended by natural health practitioners for a variety of conditions including: hives, psoriasis, rashes, eczema, constipation, liver conditions, gallbladder dysfunction, asthma, bronchitis and anemia.
Yellow dock can be used as encapsulated herb, dried root, tincture or liquid extract. The roots contain the most concentrated medicinal substances. Yellow dock can be used topically to treat skin conditions, just be sure to dilute any alcohol-based formulas to avoid skin irritation. It is found as a component of many cleansing formulas. In order to help with digestion, bitter herbs must be tasted, like when you take in a tincture or tea. Encapsulated herbs are swallowed, thus bypassing the taste buds, and will not stimulate digestion.
Yellow dock leaves may contain high levels of oxalic acid and can be poisonous in large quantities. Yellow dock supplements should not be by individuals susceptible to oxalic acid kidney stones.
