Effective
I have been taking this product for some time and would recommend it, but i find there's a significant difference between the ingredients and instructions on my bottle (500 mg of bitter melon fruit powder and 50 mcg chromium with brown rice flour, magnesium stearate and hypromellose vegetarian capsule. Take 2 capsules twice daily) and the above information. I think the company should clarify this. My bottle has LOT #048468 with EXP 11 2026

Bitter Melon

The fruit of the bitter melon is a common food item in tropical regions. Medicinally it has traditional usages for infections, and diabetes. In the Western world, bitter melon is known as a hypoglycemic agent. This means that it has the ability to lower blood sugar, thus reducing the damaging effect of excess sugar that characterizes the condition diabetes.

This effect is thought to occur due to a combination of chemicals in bitter melon, rather than one constituent. In other studies, two proteins, contained in the fruit of biter melon, have been shown to have antiviral activity against HIV. However, this has yet to be proven in clinical trials.

Bitter melon juice is difficult to find in North America. Most supplements are made from encapsulated dried fruit. Be sure to purchase a product that has been standardized to the triterpene content. This is an assurance that the product contains bitter melon and has some active properties.

Bitter melon juice may cause miscarriage and should not be used in pregnancy. Because bitter melon has hypoglycemic effects those taking insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs should use bitter melon under the care of a health professional.

Diabetes

Diabetes more and more common in North America every year occurs when there is too much sugar in the blood. The most prevalent form of the disease is TYPE II diabetes. In this type, the person's pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to metabolize the amount of sugar that they are ingesting.
A diet high in refined carbohydrates and nutrient deficiency are large contributing factors to "age onset diabetes", as it is often called; excess body weight, lack of exercise, and heredity also often play significant roles when a person develops diabetes.

The symptoms of diabetes often sneak up on people over time usually beginning mildly, then progressively becoming more severe. They include: fatigue, "brain fog", thirst, constant hunger, excessive urination, weight gain, and general malaise. Complicating things for the diabetic is a fluctuation between too much sugar in the blood and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Hypoglycemia often creates seemingly uncontrollable and powerful cravings for sweet foods which, when satisfied, causes low blood sugar to swing back to excess sugar.

Hypoglycemia

Tired, depressed, fatigued, anxious and... frustrated. If you feel like this you might have hypoglycemia. Often called the sugar blues because of the depression and "brain fog" it produces, low blood sugar has become more and more common as people continue to eat diets high in refined sugars and low in essential nutrients.

Typically the hypoglycemic will often have seemingly uncontrollable cravings for carbohydrates, and an equally seeming uncontrollable fatigue - especially in the early afternoon.

Blood sugar levels must be maintained within a specific range for optimal functioning of your whole body for both your body and your brain. Without a healthy level of sugar your body loses power, and your brain gives you a message (in the form of a craving) to eat more sugar. When you do, your energy is increased, but only temporarily. The surge in sugars causes your pancreas to secrete a large quantity of insulin to metabolism the sugars you just ate, which often causes your blood sugar to drop again. This is the yo-yoing effect that hypoglycemics often feel - from high energy to low energy. Complicating matters is something called insulin resistance, which is when the body becomes tolerant to the level of insulin your pancreas produces, resulting in its inability to digest and absorb carbohydrates effectively. This may eventually lead to diabetes. Insulin resistance can be caused by ingesting too much refined sugar, or by a chromium deficiency.
