SISU 60MG COQ10

CoQ-10 (ubiquinone) is potent anti-oxidant; it is recommended frequently in Japan for heart related conditions. Coenzyme Q-10 is a substance our bodies naturally produce, however with age this vital substance slowly depletes. It is crucial in the production of cellular energy, which is needed for the heart to remain strong and healthy.

What is Coenzyme Q-10?

Coenzyme Q10 is one of the ten types of coenzyme Q that are found in nature, but the only one that is used by humans. It is a fat-soluble antioxidant. This means that it can work in areas like our mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) and cell membranes, to deactivate harmful free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that in their bid to become more stable must bump into healthy cells and cause damage. Coenzyme Q10's antioxidant properties neutralize free radicals and therefore reduce damage in tissues.

Scientific Background

Coenzyme Q-10 is essential to our cell's ability to manufacture adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), which is our bodies' energy currency. Since the discovery of coenzyme Q-10 in 1957, ongoing research has demonstrated the importance of this powerful antioxidant in boosting energy, slowing the development of age-related diseases, and even combating gum disease. Co Q-10 is found in many foods, including beef, sardines, and broccoli. However, it is very fragile and easily destroyed by heat. The body manufactures a significant amount of Co Q-10 when we're young, but this production declines with age. Because the heart is one of the biggest energy consumers in the human body, depleted levels of this energy-producing nutrient may be connected with declining heart health. Studies show that many people of middle age and older have slight Co Q-10 deficiencies.

CoQ10 & Heart Health

Over 100 studies have shown that Co Q-10 supplements can be helpful to people with high blood pressure and heart problems, or people who are at risk of developing heart problems. In Japan, where extensive research on Co Q-10 has taken place, it is regularly recommended for heart patients. In Texas, several studies have demonstrated that as little as 30 mg of Co Q-10 daily can help heart patients by increasing volume of blood pumped, improving heart stamina, and diminishing shortness of breath.

Some medications deplete heart supporting nutrients like coenzyme Q10, magnesium, potassium and zinc. Ironically several of these medications are used to treat cardiovascular disease. Cholesterol lowering medication can deplete coenzyme Q10. Diuretics, used for high blood pressure, increase the excretion of minerals like magnesium and potassium. This can cause problems maintaining heart rhythm and lead to muscle spasms. ACE inhibitors deplete zinc. Beta-blockers deplete coenzyme Q10.
