Sage Oil For Aromatherapy
Sage is an herb used in cuisine worldwide and prized for its strong herbal aroma and unique, earthy flavor. It imparts warmth and complexity to various dishes, from meat and seafood to lemon and butter. There are many varieties of sage, but Salvia officinalis (common sage) is typically used as an herb for culinary purposes and sage oil is used for aromatherapy purposes. It belongs to the mint family, alongside other herbs like oregano, rosemary, basil, and thyme.
Sage is highly nutrient-dense and loaded with therapeutic compounds, which is why it is also widely used in medicinal applications and is available in fresh, dried, or oil form. Sage oil is a staple of aromatherapy and is preferred for its spicy-sweet aroma, which generates warmth and comfort.
Diffused sage essential oil can be used in the same way dried sage bundles are used in "smudging." For the uninitiated, smudging is an ancient Native American spiritual ritual that entails burning dried sage as incense to cleanse the air of impurities and negative energy and connect to the spiritual realm.

Sage Essential Oil Therapeutic Properties
Sage essential oil is known to be antimicrobial and antibacterial, so it can help protect against all bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other potential pathogens. Sage oil used in diffusion is also beneficial for upper respiratory tract infections and associated symptoms like coughing, sneezing, breathlessness, a tight chest, and wheezing. It's also quite effective for those with chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergies. Another exciting use for sage oil is as a mood lifter and to help mitigate the symptoms of acute or chronic stress, anxiety, mild depression, and even alleviating pain. Last but by no means least, sage is known as a feminine herb. It relieves distinctly female symptoms, including PMS, cramps, and those associated with perimenopause and menopause.
How To Use It
This oil may be used for fragrance purposes, by itself or in combination blends, and can be blended with a carrier oil (coconut, sweet almond, jojoba, or other) and applied to the skin. This essential oil can also be added to water and used in diffusion.
Sage oil may be paired with many other essential oils, but aroma-wise, it is an excellent match for citrus oils and blends equally well with hyssop, lavender, and rosemary, among others.
