One of the best advantages to stevia is that depending on the product you select, it can be anywhere from 200 to 450 times sweeter than sugar so a little goes a very long way. It adds natural sweetness to recipes without providing any calories or carbohydrates because the body cannot metabolize it. Therefore, it has no impact on blood sugar. Even more interestingly, some studies have shown that pure stevia extract can decrease post-meal blood sugar in those with type 2 diabetes.
