In particular, also for stress with pain in the region of the kidneys, especially on the left side (disorders on the right side point, rather, to Apis compositum); gouty diathesis and rheumatism (chronic). Berberis-Homaccord is also a frequently needed intermediate remedy in the most varied phases, including, for example, reaction phases, strain of the defensive system, therapeutic damage. Berberis-Homaccord also acts as a powerful stimulant of the function of cortex of the suprarenal gland and is therefore indicated also in neoplasm phases in support of the functions of the cortex of the suprarenal gland which are becoming increasingly exhausted.
The dosage is adjusted according to the disease, the symptoms and the stage of the illness: for colic, 10 drops every 10-15 minutes alternating with Reneel, Spascupreel, Arsuraneel, possibly Duodenoheel and Bryaconeel. Kidney & Bladder Health
Infections of the urinary tract are quite common, especially in women. Infections usually begin when bacteria colonize the bladder lining and cause inflammation (cystitis). The infection may spread up into the kidney causing nephritis or to the prostate causing prostatitis.
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic infection between the bladder lining and muscular layer. Its exact cause is unknown but it is usually non-infectious and occurs subsequent to several cystitis episodes.
Factors that predispose an individual to bladder infections are poor hygiene, the use of perfumed of coloured hygiene products, antibiotic use, oral contraceptive use, catheter use, sexually transmitted diseases, stress and poor nutrition.
Symptoms of cystitis are urinary frequency and urgency with burning pain on urination. Emptying the bladder may not relieve the symptoms. The urine may be cloudy or "coke coloured", due to the presence of blood. Lab testing of the urine reveals the presence of bacteria. Symptoms can be mild, with gradual onset or severe, with a quick onset. Fever and lower back pain signal that the kidney is affected. The symptoms of interstitial cystitis are the same but are usually recurring and lab testing is negative for bacteria.
Gout Concerns
Gout is an inflammation of the joints caused by the crystallization of excess uric acid. The crystals have jagged edges that irritate the tissue and cause pain. Gout is caused by genetic susceptibility, diets that are high in meat and saturated fat, alcohol consumption, fungal overgrowth, obesity, diabetes, stress, psoriasis and some cancers.
High uric acid may be found in the blood before gouty symptoms appear. Gout most commonly affects the main joint of the big toe but the elbow, knee and thumb can be affected. Symptoms come on suddenly and include joint pain, swelling, redness and heat. Fever and fatigue may also occur. Attacks last days to weeks and reoccur as long as uric acid levels remain high.
Conventional treatment of gout involves medication to decrease uric acid levels. Allupurinol and colchicine are two examples of such medication. Their side effects include skin eruptions, vasculitis and liver toxicity. Acute symptoms can be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs like indomethacin or cortisone. The side effects of these medications are headaches, confusion and adrenal depletion.
