Adults and children above 12 years: 1 tablet each sublingually or dissolved completely in mouth 3 times daily or as directed by a physician. Acute dosage: 1 tablet each every 15 minutes, up to 8 doses. Recommended at the onset of infection: 1 tablet each every 15 minutes for 8 doses or 1 ampule each orally per day for 5 days or 1 injection each per day for 5 days.

Engystol Demonstrated Efficacy
Post marketing drug monitoring studies of Engystol Tablets and Engystol N injection solution demonstrate that both dosage forms exhibit excellent tolerability and efficacy. The onset of action of Engystol injection appears to be slightly faster than that of the tablet form. However, regardless of which dosage form is used, the level of symptom improvement will be the same after 4 days. Engystol and Engystol achieved a good to very good therapeutic result in over 88% of patients.
Engystol to help reduce need for corticosteroids in steroid-dependent bronchial asthma
A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study with Engystol was performed on 40 patients with corticosteroid-dependent bronchial asthma. Half the patients received subcutaneous injections of Engystol every 5-7 days, for 7 months and the control group received placebo injections. Patients progress was measured using PEFR, FVC, FEV, granulocyte function and clinical parameters. The Engystol group had improvements in their clinical parameters (spirometric tests) and a reduction (to half their initial dose) in their dosage of corticosteroids as compared to the placebo group.
Engystol antiviral activity
Basic research studies revealed a dose dependent antiviral activity of Engystol in-vitro against adenovirus Type 5 of almost 60%. A slight antiviral activity also was demonstrated against RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus).

Pharmacological Aspects
Susceptibility to infections depends upon the status of the immune system. The goal of treatment with combination homeopathic preparations such as Engystol and Gripp-Heel is to activate and support the endogenous defense mechanisms. This will strengthen the defense against the pathogens and ensuing infections. Engystol is a combination homeopathic drug that contains botanical and mineral ingredients, each in multiple potencies. In-vitro tests have demonstrated that Engystol stimulates the phagocytic activity of human granulocytes up to 30% above control cultures. This effect was further enhanced to 41% by applying a 1:1 mixture of Engystol and Gripp-Heel.
The effectiveness of Engystol is likely not due to a direct immunomodulation of granulocytes. An indirect effect mediated by simultaneous activation of Tlymphocytes and cytokines released from other immunocompetent cells appears more likely.
Gripp-Heel is a combination homeopathic drug that contains one mineral, three botanical ingredients, and one animal ingredient. This combination of ingredients with their corresponding dilutions categorizes Gripp-Heel as an immunomodulatory drug. Through this immunomodulatory action Gripp-Heel appears to activate the mesenchymal immune reaction and brings about regressive vicariation through removal of the viral toxin and infection source.
Engystol Detailed Ingredients and Uses
Vincetoxicum (swallowwort) Stimulation of the body's own defenses with vascular and sympathetic action, e.g. in feverish viral diseases such as influenza, mumps, etc.
Sulfur (sulphur) Reagent in all diseases; cellular activity is influenced catalytically.
Based on the individual homeopathic constituents of Engystol, therapeutic possibilities result for the activation of the body's own non-specific defenses, particularly in vague feverish infections and for influenza, as well as after Roentgen irradiation and generally in viral infections of all kinds, viral influenza, viral pneumonia and viral hepatitis, as well as after vaccination (against smallpox), also stomatitis aphthosa.

Engystol exerts a generally lowering action on high homotoxin levels, especially after therapeutic damage with the presence of impregnation and possibly also degeneration phases, particularly also in virus diseases, which are characterized by the penetration of the virus (homotoxin) into the cell. Here Engystol has no direct virostatic or virocidal effect. The effect of Engystol rests, rather, on the vincetoxin which acts similarly to aconitine, and on the asclepiadic acid (constituent of Vincetoxicum officinale), with action on the vessels and sympathetic nervous system, as well as depending on colloidal sulphur, through which, by unblocking disturbed enzyme functions (sulphide enzymes), a general non-specific stimulation of the major defensive system takes place and the way is cleared for a far-reaching detoxication. Engystol, consequently, exercises (in a similar way to Lymphomyosot), also a channeling action on the whole mesenchymal, and particularly on the Iymphatic system. This forms the foundation also for the indications of Engystol for allergies, secondary diseases and sequelae (such as agranulocytosis, neuritis, impairment of the liver, kidneys, bone marrow and myocardium; nephritis, etc.)
In serious feverish reaction phases, e.g. sepsis, after Engystol occasionally, at first, there is a slight worsening lasting from 3-5 hours, followed by a compensatory curative phase.
