Managing Allergies!
The great outdoors are always especially welcoming after a long and cold winter. Especially welcoming to most people, but not nearly to all...
The coming of spring is also, sadly a harbinger of seasonal allergies for many of us, and as such represents the start of the tedious cascade of sneezes, wheezes and tears.
What is there to do besides stay home, bolt the doors, shutter the windows and hide from the pollen and other allergens that abound? Well, it turns out there may be plenty you can do to take charge of your health and face the blossoms of spring with the rest of the world!
Understanding a little bit about allergies
In laymen's terms, an allergy is an inappropriate response by our immune system to a substance that it should technically recognize as harmless. Now to complicate things further, an allergen can also take the form of anything really...; though, in the case of seasonal allergies or hay fever more specifically, an allergen typically refers to pollen or grasses, animal hair and dander or dust. The overreaction of the immune system happens when the body wrongly identifies non-toxic substances as foreign invaders, and then goes on to mount its attack.
Once the immune system is deregulated in this way, when an allergen (or a perceived allergen as the case may be) comes into contact with either the skin or a mucosal membrane, such as via the nose or the bronchial tube for example, it is will be recognized as an enemy and engender a series of reactions triggered to annihilate this supposed threat. What happens as a result is inflammation in its purest form. Not inflammation as it is classically understood to be, but the inflammatory process as a purposeful and useful tool to help the body heal. The characteristic signs of inflammation will then bear witness to the allergy: itchiness, swelling and an increase in mucus production and secretion; which in allergy-speak translates into a runny nose, watery eyes and stuffed up sinuses, all hallmark symptoms of hay fever allergies.
The final thing that must be understood about allergies is that they are not curable; once developed, they are a part of us, becoming a part of our genetic makeup and though manageable to varying degrees depending on the therapy chosen, there is simply no cure for them.
Homotoxicology offers some real choices
Homotoxicology (the study of the effect of toxins on the human body) offers some truly interesting and truly very effective solutions to the management of seasonal allergies.
The product I most like in this vein is Luffeel. It is a combination of natural botanical substances and mineral ingredients, that has been scientifically proven to effectively relieve typical allergic nasal and ocular symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes. What I particularly like about this medication that incidentally, is conveniently offered in two galenic forms, is that it may be used both in the treatment and in the prevention of recurring allergies. In fact, when there is a known history of seasonal allergies, the effectiveness of the Luffeel nasal spray is greatly enhanced by starting treatment with the tablet form prior to the allergy season, and indeed to quell and diminish symptoms throughout the entire season.
The particular effectiveness of this combination homeopathic medication lies in its precisely chosen and dosed constituents that exert a decongestant as well as a moisturizing effect on the nasal mucosa and the mucous membranes.
Further, Luffeel has a systemic effect on the entirety of mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, and as such is especially effective at stimulating the excretion of allergens and supporting air exchange in the lower respiratory tract, so breathing is made easier.
Certainly, depending on the severity of the allergies, other formulas may be warranted to help the body through the hay fever season. In this light, in it important to note that two things that all allergies have in common are a liver in hyperactivity and elevated histamine levels. To this end, it may be apropos to include a liver support formula to help stimulate the detoxifying capabilities of the liver. One such medication is Hepar compositum, that offers particularly effective detoxification support and that is perfectly indicated in instances of liver overload (hyperactivity). In fact, this potent homeopathic formulation can help detoxify a hyperactive liver and stimulate the release of toxins accumulated through the allergic process.
Effective Treatment; Enjoy the Outdoors!
The number of people with allergies has grown dramatically in recent years. Currently, more than one in six Canadians suffer from hay fever during the spring and summer months.1 Unsatisfactory results with conventional treatments are widespread increasing numbers of allergy sufferers are therefore eager to try alternative options like homeopathy.
Luffeel nasal spray and tablets combine the therapeutic effects of natural botanical substances with mineral ingredients. Luffeel has been proven to effectively relieve typical allergic nasal and ocular symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing and itchy eyes.
When there is a history of seasonal allergies, the effectiveness of Luffeel nasal spray may be enhanced by starting treatment with Luffeel tablets prior to the onset of symptoms. Thus, Luffeel can be taken both in prevention and treatment.
Scientifically Proven
In a randomized, double-blind clinical study of 146 patients suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis, the effectiveness of Luffeel nasal spray was compared to that of cromolyn sodium nasal spray over a six-week period. Four to eight sprays of Luffeel per nostril daily resulted in significant and lasting improvement of symptoms, equivalent to that of cromolyn sodium. Both medications were well tolerated.
The carefully chosen ingredients in Luffeel complement each other in order to address a broad spectrum of nasal and ocular allergic symptoms. The combination of both tablets and nasal spray offers significant relief from the most common symptoms.
