100-Year Old History of Martin & Pleasance
Martin & Pleasance is a wellness brand that dates back to 1855, when founder Mr Kinder opened a homeopathic pharmacy specializing in Scheussler Tissue Salts and herbal creams. In 1869, the business passed to M. Edward Gould, becoming Gould & Son, and later evolved into Gould & Martin after R.J. Martin joined and assumed ownership. In 1878, Charles Pleasance, a medically trained practitioner, partnered with Martin, and the pharmacy had its final name change to Martin & Pleasance. By 1866, Pleasance was the sole proprietor, laying the groundwork for a legacy of trusted natural remedies.
Between 1930 and 1998, the company expanded to New Zealand and distributed the original Bach Flower Remedies, working directly with Dr Bach. During this time, it was also acquired by the Holyman family, and they continue to retain ownership to this day.
Martin & Pleasance honours tradition, innovation, and sustainability, using recycled packaging, solar power, and planet-conscious partnerships.
