More Info

Max Cardio Flow is a new, science based product designed to improve and maintain cardiovascular health. It contains a broad spectrum of heart healthy nutrients that allow the circulatory system to function optimally.

Max Cardio Flow has a number of antioxidants to fight free radical damage which is often associated with the formation of arterial plaque. It includes Garlic and Hawthorne, which improves circulation, as well as contain Plant Sterols and Pollicosanol that are effective in reducing cholesterol.

Elevated levels of homocysteine are linked to hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and to the formation of blood clots, Max Cardio Flow has several ingredients such as L-Methionine, Choline, B6 and B12 which help to bring down homocysteine levels.

Arteriosclerosis and Atherosclerosis
Occurs when deposits build-up on the inside of the arteries. This leads to a decrease in the flexibility and elasticity of the walls. Deposits can be made of calcium (arteriosclerosis) or fatty substances like cholesterol (atherosclerosis). Decreased circulation leads to high blood pressure as the body struggles to maintain enough blood flow to its tissues. Pieces of the deposits can break off or the turbulent flow of blood can cause clots to form. If the pieces or clots lodge in smaller vessels this leads to heart attack or stroke. Heart attack occurs when the vessels to the heart become blocked, or sufficiently constricted, to reduce blood flow to an area of the heart muscle. The muscle begins to die which leads to permanent heart damage. The cause of the constriction can be an atherosclerotic plaque, a piece of tissue, an air bubble or a blood clot.

Heart Health
The cardiovascular system consists of the heart and approximately 60 thousand miles of blood vessels, called arteries and veins. The heart pumps blood around the body. The vessels nourish cells by transporting nutrients and waste products, through the blood, around the body.

Most cardiovascular disease occurs due to lifestyle factors such as:
1. Obesity, poor nutrition, and medication usage.
2. Free radical damage due to environmental toxins or smoking.
3. Stress or poor emotional health.
4. Lack of exercise.

Support A Healthy Heart By:
- Exercising regularly, at least 3-4 times a week.
- Maintaining a healthy body weight.
- Eating less saturated fat and avoiding trans fats.
- Consuminghealthy fats such omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids.
- Eating a variety of fresh, natural, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables.
- Ensuring fibre consumption is between 25-35 grams a day, try flax or psyllium powder.
- Cooking with fresh herbs and spices such as garlic, ginger and cayenne.
- Supplementing with antioxidants such as CoQ10 to increase circulation and improve heart functions.
- Avoiding processed, packaged and refined foods.
- Using stress relieving techniques such as mediation, yoga or tai chi.
- Not smoking and limiting your exposure to occupational toxins.
- Seeing you physician or natural health care practitioner regularly.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is an essential molecule in our bodies. Our body cells use cholesterol to support their cell membranes and some of the membrane associated receptor molecules. Cholesterol is also used to make steroid hormones in the body. Some examples of steroid hormones are reproductive hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and the stress hormone cortisol. Because of this, it is essential to keep cholesterol in balance in the body.

Blood Cycle
Cholesterol cycles from the liver to the body cells, and back again, via the blood. LDL cholesterol consists of fats that are being transported from the liver for use by your cells. HDL cholesterol consists of fat that is taking unused (excess) cholesterol from your cells back to the liver, where it is excreted. Because of this, high levels of LDL are not a big concern, so long as there are sufficient levels of HDL to retrieve any excess cholesterol left behind in the body. Thus, cholesterol levels are unhealthy if you have excess circulating LDL, insufficient HDL, or a combination of the two. Cholesterol that is left in the rest of the body and not retrieved by sufficient HDL can build up inside the arteries and when combined with systemic inflammation, can cause cardiovascular disease. Thus, maintaining cholesterol balance, or a good cholesterol ratio on your blood work is actually more important than targeting LDL cholesterol directly. Supplementing fish oil is an excellent way to boost your HDL cholesterol. For more information, please see our Fish Oil article.

Cardiovascular Disease
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in North America. High cholesterol contributes to heart disease when the fatty molecules build up on the inside of arteries. This leads to a decrease in the flexibility and elasticity of the walls and a narrowing of the space inside. As the artery becomes narrower, it leads to high blood pressure because the body struggles to maintain enough blood flow to its tissues. Pieces of the cholesterol plaque can break off or the turbulent flow of blood can cause clots to form. If the pieces or clots lodge in smaller vessels this leads to heart attack or stroke.
