Thayer’s Long History

Founded in 1847 by Dr Henry Thayer, Thayer’s is a brand rooted in both medical expertise and a passion for nature. From a young age, Dr Thayer was fascinated by medicine and pursued chemistry at Boston University School of Medicine. Defying the medical norm of his time, which favoured conventional treatments, he explored natural remedies, launching Henry Thayer & Co. right out of med school in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr Thayer started the Thayer’s brand with a mission to create potent, concentrated natural extracts that worked. By the Civil War, Dr Thayer had developed over 800 remedies, making his brand a trusted name in pharmaceuticals. He received recognition for his work in 1855 with a silver medal for fluid extracts from the American Institute of New York, and by1877, his botanical formulations were widely used by physicians.

A major turning point came in 1989 with the launch of Thayer’s now-iconic alcohol-free witch hazel toner. In recent years, the brand has deepened its dedication to sustainability and natural living, incorporating locally grown aloe vera and witch hazel into its formulas.

Committed to reducing its environmental footprint, Thayer’s now uses biodegradable packaging and 100% recycled plastic bottles (excluding caps).

In 2021, the brand expanded its presence in markets worldwide, unveiling a modernised look while staying true to Dr Thayer’s legacy of combining the power of plants with cutting-edge science to create effective skincare.
