Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking antidepressant medications, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or birth control pills, if you have any type of acute infection, liver disorder or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen. Headaches, mild gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea), heart palpitations, or hyperactivity/insomnia may occur. Consuming ashwagandha with alcohol, other drugs or natural health products with sedative properties is not recommended. Do not use if you are taking thiazide diuretics, cardiac glycosides, corticosteroids, stimulant laxatives or other medications which may aggravate electrolyte imbalance, or if you have hypokalemia, high blood pressure, a kidney or cardiovascular disorder or bipolar spectrum disorder.
STRESS
Stress is usually thought of as a negative factor in our daily lives but it is necessary part of life. Without stress life becomes boring. The key to stress, as with everything else in life, is balance. Enough to keep you interested but not enough to become overwhelmed. Individuals have different thresholds for stress. What is seen as stressful to one person may not be stressful to another.
The stress response is the body's way of preparing for action. As our species evolved it kept us safe, allowing us to fight for survival, or to flee from dangerous situations. The sympathetic nervous system response involves increased heart rate, blood pressure and adrenal output, as well as increased blood flow to the brain, muscles, lungs and heart. Those organs that are not needed to fight or flee receive less blood flow, for example, the digestive organs. This response is very efficient for a short period of time but it is meant to be used sparingly.
Adrenal Glands
Adrenal glands are small glands located on the upper pole of each kidney. There are two main areas of the adrenals. The cortex produces sex hormones, stress hormones and other hormones respon-sible for water &sugar balance. The medulla produces the stress hormones adrenaline and nor adrenaline.
What are "Adoptogens"?
Adaptogens are a class of nutrients that help us cope with all stressors; they activate the whole-body, non-specific defense redirecting the body's resources to provide energy for active engagement with all of life's struggles - physical, emotional, and environmental. Adaptogens promote balance in the body, and enhance our ability to adjust our internal environment in response to changes in the external environment.
Pantethine
This B vitamin is converted to coenzyme A, which is needed in hundreds of metabolic reactions essential for energy production, fatty acid synthesis, protein formation, and for the production of adrenal hormones needed for optimum energy levels and for controlling stress.
vitamin C
Vitamin C is essential for the production of seeveral stress hormones; the adrenal glands contain some of the body's highest concentrations of vitamin C.
Rhodiola
This herb has long been used in Siberia to enhance physical and mental endurance. Recent clinical trials have shown that the botanical extract has an anti-fatigue effect and in tests improved physical fitness, neuromotor function, and reduced mental fatigue
Licorice
Licorice activates receptors fo key adrenal hormones, helping mobilize energy stores in response to stress. Licorice also inhibits enzymes responsible for the degradation of adrenal hormones.
Ashwaghanda
Also known as Indian ginseng, ahswaghanda stress related to an over stimulated nervous system.
siberian ginseng
siberian ginseng has been shown in clinical studies to improve the body's response to stress, and to enhance both physical and mental energy.
Ortho-Adapt: The Healthy Solution for Reducing Stress
